And those who come after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have passed (migrated) before us with Faith. And do not leave in our hearts any grudge towards those who believe (who are âmenû). Our Lord, you are indeed full of Kindness, the Most Merciful”.
Do you not see those who are disbelievers? They say to their brethren among the People of the Book who disbelieve: “If you are driven forth (from your land), we shall certainly go forth with you. We never obey any one amongst you who is against you. And if they fight you, we shall certainly help you”. And Allah bears witness that they are most surely liars.
If they are truly driven forth (from their land), they do not go forth with them. And if they get into fight, they do not help them. And even if they truly help them, they certainly turn their backs (run away from the fight). Then they shall not be helped.
You are certainly more severe in their hearts in regards to fear (they fear you more than Allah). This is because they are a people who cannot comprehend (the Greatness and Power of Allah).
They cannot fight against you as a group, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls (fortresses). Their fighting between them is severe. You think that they are one body, yet their hearts are scattered. This is because they are a people who are not mindful.
(Their state is) like those before them shortly who tasted the evil result of their affairs, and for them there is a painful torment.
(The promises of the disbelievers to you is) like the state (promises) of Satan. He had said to human: “Deny (become a disbeliever)”. But when he disbelieved, he said: “I am surely distant to you, surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds”.
