Sura List » Maryam

19/Maryam-1: KafhayaAAaynsad
Kâf-Hâ-Yâ-‘Aîn-Sâd. [These disjointed letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’ân, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].

19/Maryam-2: Thikru rahmati rabbika AAabdahu zakariyya
(This is) a mention of the Mercy of your Lord to His servant Zachariah.

19/Maryam-3: Ith nada rabbahu nidaan khafiyyan
When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret.

19/Maryam-4: Qala rabbi innee wahana alAAathmu minnee waishtaAAala alrrasu shayban walam akun biduAAaika rabbi shaqiyyan
He said: Surely. I (am weakened) and my bones (too) are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unblest in my prayer to You:

19/Maryam-5: Wainnee khiftu almawaliya min waraee wakanati imraatee AAaqiran fahab lee min ladunka waliyyan
And surely I fear my relatives after me (that they will not behave like me) and my wife is barren, so give me from Yourself (Your Presence) a Walî (a protecting friend, an aider, a son, an heir).

19/Maryam-6: Yarithunee wayarithu min ali yaAAqooba waijAAalhu rabbi radiyyan
Who should inherit me and inherit from the house of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-Pleased.

19/Maryam-7: Ya zakariyya inna nubashshiruka bighulamin ismuhu yahya lam najAAal lahu min qablu samiyyan
O Zachariah! Surely We give you the glad tidings of a son, whose name shall be John (Yahyâ). We have not given this name to anyone before (him).

19/Maryam-8: Qala rabbi anna yakoonu lee ghulamun wakanati imraatee AAaqiran waqad balaghtu mina alkibari AAitiyyan
He said: My Lord! How shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age.

19/Maryam-9: Qala kathalika qala rabbuka huwa AAalayya hayyinun waqad khalaqtuka min qablu walam taku shayan
He (the angel) said: So (shall it be). Your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing.

19/Maryam-10: Qala rabbi ijAAal lee ayatan qala ayatuka alla tukallima alnnasa thalatha layalin sawiyyan
He said: My Lord! Appoint for me a sign. He (Allah) said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health.

19/Maryam-11: Fakharaja AAala qawmihi mina almihrabi faawha ilayhim an sabbihoo bukratan waAAashiyyan
So he went forth to his people from the Shrine (Al-Mihrâb, the place of worship), and he signified to them (he caused them to hear with his inner voice without speaking) that they should glorify (Allah) at break of day and fall of night.

19/Maryam-12: Ya yahya khuthi alkitaba biquwwatin waataynahu alhukma sabiyyan
(It was said to his son): O John (Yahyâ)! Take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him the Wisdom (the Judgement) while yet a child.

19/Maryam-13: Wahananan min ladunna wazakatan wakana taqiyyan
And Love (tenderness, compassion) from Our Presence and purity (the soul’s purification) and he has been the owner of piety, takwâ.

19/Maryam-14: Wabarran biwalidayhi walam yakun jabbaran AAasiyyan
And kind (dutiful) towards his parents; and he was not insolent, rebellious.

19/Maryam-15: Wasalamun AAalayhi yawma wulida wayawma yamootu wayawma yubAAathu hayyan
And peace be on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the Day he is raised to life (again).

19/Maryam-16: Waothkur fee alkitabi maryama ithi intabathat min ahliha makanan sharqiyyan
And mention in the Book (the Qur’ân) (the story of) Mary (Maryam) when she drew aside from her family to an eastern place.

19/Maryam-17: Faittakhathat min doonihim hijaban faarsalna ilayha roohana fatamaththala laha basharan sawiyyan
So she took a veil (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our spirit (the Holy Spirit) and he appeared to her a well-made man.

19/Maryam-18: Qalat innee aAAoothu bialrrahmani minka in kunta taqiyyan
She said: I seek refuge in the All-Merciful (Allah) from you if you are the owner of piety (your harm does not touch me).

19/Maryam-19: Qala innama ana rasoolu rabbiki liahaba laki ghulaman zakiyyan
He (the angel) said: I am only a Messenger from your Lord: That I will grant you a pure boy.

19/Maryam-20: Qalat anna yakoonu lee ghulamun walam yamsasnee basharun walam aku baghiyyan
She said: How can I have a son, and no mortal (human being) has yet touched me, nor have I been unchaste?

19/Maryam-21: Qala kathaliki qala rabbuki huwa AAalayya hayyinun walinajAAalahu ayatan lilnnasi warahmatan minna wakana amran maqdiyyan
He (the Holy Spirit) said: So (shall it be) your Lord says: It is easy to me; and that We may make him a sign to men and a mercy from Us; and it is a matter which has been decreed (by Allah).

19/Maryam-22: Fahamalathu faintabathat bihi makanan qasiyyan
So she conceived him; then withdrew herself with him to a remote place.

19/Maryam-23: Faajaaha almakhadu ila jithAAi alnnakhlati qalat ya laytanee mittu qabla hatha wakuntu nasyan mansiyyan
And the throes (of childbirth) compelled her to go to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: Oh, would that I had died before this, and had been a thing quite forgotten.

19/Maryam-24: Fanadaha min tahtiha alla tahzanee qad jaAAala rabbuki tahtaki sariyyan
Then (the babe or the Angel) called out to her from below her: Do not grieve; surely your Lord has made a stream to flow under you.

19/Maryam-25: Wahuzzee ilayki bijithAAi alnnakhlati tusaqit AAalayki rutaban janiyyan
And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will drop on you fresh ripe-dates.

19/Maryam-26: Fakulee waishrabee waqarree AAaynan faimma tarayinna mina albashari ahadan faqoolee innee nathartu lilrrahmani sawman falan okallima alyawma insiyyan
So eat and drink and refresh the eye (be consoled). Then if you see any mortal, say: Surely I have vowed a fast to the All-Merciful (Allah), so I shall not speak to any man today.

19/Maryam-27: Faatat bihi qawmaha tahmiluhu qaloo ya maryamu laqad jiti shayan fariyyan
And she came to her people with him, carrying him (with her). They said: O Mary! Surely you have done an amazing (strange, bad) thing.

19/Maryam-28: Ya okhta haroona ma kana abooki imraa sawin wama kanat ommuki baghiyyan
O sister of Aaron! Your father was not a wicked man, nor was your mother an unchaste woman.

19/Maryam-29: Faasharat ilayhi qaloo kayfa nukallimu man kana fee almahdi sabiyyan
Then she pointed to him. They said: How should we speak to one who is a child in the cradle?

19/Maryam-30: Qala innee AAabdu Allahi ataniya alkitaba wajaAAalanee nabiyyan
He (Jesus) said: Surely I am a servant of Allah; He has given me the Book and made me a prophet.

19/Maryam-31: WajaAAalanee mubarakan ayna ma kuntu waawsanee bialssalati waalzzakati ma dumtu hayyan
And He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and He has enjoined on me the Prayer (As-Salât) and the poor-rate (Az-Zakât) so long as I live.

19/Maryam-32: Wabarran biwalidatee walam yajAAalnee jabbaran shaqiyyan
And (He has made me) dutiful to my mother and He has not made me insolent, unblessed.

19/Maryam-33: Waalssalamu AAalayya yawma wulidtu wayawma amootu wayawma obAAathu hayyan
And peace be upon me on the day I was born, and on the day I die, and on the Day I am raised up to life (again).

19/Maryam-34: Thalika AAeesa ibnu maryama qawla alhaqqi allathee feehi yamtaroona
Such is Jesus, son of Mary; (he) is the Word of the Truth (Hakk) about which they doubt (dispute).

19/Maryam-35: Ma kana lillahi an yattakhitha min waladin subhanahu itha qada amran fainnama yaqoolu lahu kun fayakoonu
It does not beseem Allah that He should take (to Himself) a son. Glory be to Him! When He decrees (determines) a matter, He only says to it “Be”, and it is.

19/Maryam-36: Wainna Allaha rabbee warabbukum faoAAbudoohu hatha siratun mustaqeemun
And surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, therefore serve (become servants to) Him; this is (to be on) the Straight Path (leading to Allah).

19/Maryam-37: Faikhtalafa alahzabu min baynihim fawaylun lillatheena kafaroo min mashhadi yawmin AAatheemin
Yet the sects (parties) from among themselves differed (disagreed with each other), so woe to those who disbelieve because of the witnessing of a great Day (when a great Day will be witnessed).

19/Maryam-38: AsmiAA bihim waabsir yawma yatoonana lakini alththalimoona alyawma fee dalalin mubeenin
How clearly shall they hear and how clearly shall they see (How many a thing they will be made to hear and to see) on the Day when they will come to Us; but the wrong-doers this Day (still) are in a manifest Misguidance.

19/Maryam-39: Waanthirhum yawma alhasrati ith qudiya alamru wahum fee ghaflatin wahum la yuminoona
And warn them of the Day of intense regret, when the matter shall have been decided (fulfilled); and they are (now) in heedlessness (in negligence) and they do not believe.

19/Maryam-40: Inna nahnu narithu alarda waman AAalayha wailayna yurjaAAoona
Surely We shall interit the earth and all those who are on it, and to Us they shall be returned.

19/Maryam-41: Waothkur fee alkitabi ibraheema innahu kana siddeeqan nabiyyan
And mention in the Book Abraham; surely he was a truthful man (who gave lot of alms, he was veracious, he used to say the truth) and a Prophet.

19/Maryam-42: Ith qala liabeehi ya abati lima taAAbudu ma la yasmaAAu wala yubsiru wala yughnee AAanka shayan
When he said to his father: O my father! Why do you worship what neither hears nor sees, nor does it avail you in the least?

19/Maryam-43: Ya abati innee qad jaanee mina alAAilmi ma lam yatika faittabiAAnee ahdika siratan sawiyyan
O my father! Verily there has come to me of the Knowledge that which did not come to you. So depend on (follow) me, I will guide you to the Smooth Path (leading to Allah).

19/Maryam-44: Ya abati la taAAbudi alshshaytana inna alshshaytana kana lilrrahmani AAasiyyan
O my father! Do not serve (do not become a servant to) Satan. Surely Satan is ever rebellious against the All-Merciful (Allah).

19/Maryam-45: Ya abati innee akhafu an yamassaka AAathabun mina alrrahmani fatakoona lilshshyatani waliyyan
O my father! Surely I fear lest a torment from the All-Merciful should touch (overtake) you so that you should be a friend of Satan.

19/Maryam-46: Qala araghibun anta AAan alihatee ya ibraheemu lain lam tantahi laarjumannaka waohjurnee maliyyan
He said: Do you dislike (do you not attach any value to) my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist (from this), I will certainly stone you (to death). Now depart from me a long while.

19/Maryam-47: Qala salamun AAalayka saastaghfiru laka rabbee innahu kana bee hafiyyan
He said: Peace be on you! I will ask forgiveness of my Lord for you; surely He is unto me Ever Most Gracious.

19/Maryam-48: WaaAAtazilukum wama tadAAoona min dooni Allahi waadAAoo rabbee AAasa alla akoona biduAAai rabbee shaqiyyan
And I will withdraw from you and what you call on besides Allah, and I will call upon my Lord; maybe I shall not remain unblessed in calling upon my Lord.

19/Maryam-49: Falamma iAAtazalahum wama yaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi wahabna lahu ishaqa wayaAAqooba wakullan jaAAalna nabiyyan
So when he withdrew from them and what they served (worshipped) besides Allah, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob and each one of them We made a Prophet.

19/Maryam-50: Wawahabna lahum min rahmatina wajaAAalna lahum lisana sidqin AAaliyyan
And We granted to them of Our Mercy; and We made them (Abraham and his sons) truthful and exalted on (all) the tongues.

19/Maryam-51: Waothkur fee alkitabi moosa innahu kana mukhlasan wakana rasoolan nabiyyan
And mention in the Book Moses; surely he was one utterly purified, and he was a Messenger, a Prophet.

19/Maryam-52: Wanadaynahu min janibi alttoori alaymani waqarrabnahu najiyyan
And We called to him from the right side of the Mount (Sinai) and made him draw near to Us, holding communion (with Us) (so that we should reveal to him).

19/Maryam-53: Wawahabna lahu min rahmatina akhahu haroona nabiyyan
And We granted him his brother Aaron as a Prophet, out of Our Mercy.

19/Maryam-54: Waothkur fee alkitabi ismaAAeela innahu kana sadiqa alwaAAdi wakana rasoolan nabiyyan
And mention in the Book (the Qur’ân) Ishmael; surely he was truthful in (his) promise, and he was a Messenger, a Prophet.

19/Maryam-55: Wakana yamuru ahlahu bialssalati waalzzakati wakana AAinda rabbihi mardiyyan
And he enjoined on his family (and his people) the Prayer and the poor-rate (Az-Zakât) and was one with whom his Lord was Well-Pleased.

19/Maryam-56: Waothkur fee alkitabi idreesa innahu kana siddeeqan nabiyyan
And mention in the Book Enoch (Idrîs); surely he was a truthful man, a Prophet.

19/Maryam-57: WarafaAAnahu makanan AAaliyyan
And We raised him to a High Station (to Heaven).

19/Maryam-58: Olaika allatheena anAAama Allahu AAalayhim mina alnnabiyyeena min thurriyyati adama wamimman hamalna maAAa noohin wamin thurriyyati ibraheema waisraeela wamimman hadayna waijtabayna itha tutla AAalayhim ayatu alrrahmani kharroo sujjadan wabukiyyan
These are those on whom Allah has bestowed Blessings, from among the prophets, of the seed (offspring) of Adam, and of those whom We carried (in the Ark) with Noah, and of the offspring of Abraham and Israel, and from among those We guided and chose. When the Verses of the All-Merciful were recited (read and explained) to them, they fell down in prostration and weeping.

19/Maryam-59: Fakhalafa min baAAdihim khalfun adaAAoo alssalata waittabaAAoo alshshahawati fasawfa yalqawna ghayyan
But there came after them an evil generation who neglected prayers and followed the sensual desires (lusts), so they will soon meet “Gayy” (the lowest part of Hell).

19/Maryam-60: Illa man taba waamana waAAamila salihan faolaika yadkhuloona aljannata wala yuthlamoona shayan
Except those who repent and believe (who become âmenû, who wish to reach Allah before dying) and do improving deeds (the soul’s purification), these shall enter the Garden (Paradise) and they will not be wronged in the least (in anything).

19/Maryam-61: Jannati AAadnin allatee waAAada alrrahmanu AAibadahu bialghaybi innahu kana waAAduhu matiyyan
The Gardens of Eden (Perpetuity, the Very Source of Bliss) which the All-Merciful (Allah) has promised to His servants while Unseen, surely His promise shall come to pass (shall be fulfilled).

19/Maryam-62: La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwan illa salaman walahum rizquhum feeha bukratan waAAashiyyan
They shall not hear therein any “Laghw” (dirty, false, evil, vain discourse), but only: (greetings of) Peace, and for them there is their sustenance morning and evening.

19/Maryam-63: Tilka aljannatu allatee noorithu min AAibadina man kana taqiyyan
This is the Garden (Paradise) which We shall give as an inheritance to those of Our servants who have been Al-Muttaqûn (the owners of piety, takwâ).

19/Maryam-64: Wama natanazzalu illa biamri rabbika lahu ma bayna aydeena wama khalfana wama bayna thalika wama kana rabbuka nasiyyan
And we (the angels-messengers) do not descend except by the Command of your Lord; to Him belongs whatever is before us and whatever is behind us and whatever is between these, and your Lord is never forgetful [your Lord never does forget (you)].

19/Maryam-65: Rabbu alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma faoAAbudhu waistabir liAAibadatihi hal taAAlamu lahu samiyyan
(He is the) Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so serve (become servants to) Him and be patient in His service (worship). Do you know any one that can be named along with Him?

19/Maryam-66: Wayaqoolu alinsanu aitha ma mittu lasawfa okhraju hayyan
And man says: What! When I am dead, shall I truly be brought forth alive?

19/Maryam-67: Awala yathkuru alinsanu anna khalaqnahu min qablu walam yaku shayan
Does not man remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?

19/Maryam-68: Fawarabbika lanahshurannahum waalshshayateena thumma lanuhdirannahum hawla jahannama jithiyyan
So by your Lord! We will most certainly gather them together and (also) the devils (satans), then shall We certainly cause them to be present round Hell on their knees.

19/Maryam-69: Thumma lananziAAanna min kulli sheeAAatin ayyuhum ashaddu AAala alrrahmani AAitiyyan
Then We will most certainly draw forth from every sect of them him who is most exorbitantly rebellious against the All-Merciful (God).

19/Maryam-70: Thumma lanahnu aAAlamu biallatheena hum awla biha siliyyan
Then, We do certainly know best those who deserve most to be exposed to it (to Hell) [to be burned in it].

19/Maryam-71: Wain minkum illa wariduha kana AAala rabbika hatman maqdiyyan
And there is not one of you but shall come to it; this is an unavoidable decree (incumbent) on your Lord

19/Maryam-72: Thumma nunajjee allatheena ittaqaw wanatharu alththalimeena feeha jithiyyan
And We will deliver those who had piety and We will leave the wrong-doers on their knees (in Hell).

19/Maryam-73: Waitha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna bayyinatin qala allatheena kafaroo lillatheena amanoo ayyu alfareeqayni khayrun maqaman waahsanu nadiyyan
And when Our Clear Verses (Signs…) are recited (read and explained) to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe (who are âmenû, who wish to reach Allah before dying): Which of the two parties is more advantageous in station and best in assembly (council)?

19/Maryam-74: Wakam ahlakna qablahum min qarnin hum ahsanu athathan wariyan
And how many of the generations have We destroyed before them who were better in respect of goods and outward appearance!

19/Maryam-75: Qul man kana fee alddalalati falyamdud lahu alrrahmanu maddan hatta itha raaw ma yooAAadoona imma alAAathaba waimma alssaAAata fasayaAAlamoona man huwa sharrun makanan waadAAafu jundan
Say: As for him who remains in Misguidance, the All-Merciful (God) will surely prolong his length of days, until they see what they were threatened with, either the torment (punishment) or the Hour (of Resurrection); then they shall know who is more in evil plight and weaker in forces.

19/Maryam-76: Wayazeedu Allahu allatheena ihtadaw hudan waalbaqiyatu alssalihatu khayrun AAinda rabbika thawaban wakhayrun maraddan
And Allah increases in Guidance those who are on Guidance (who have attained Guidance); and the ever lasting improving deeds are with your Lord best in recompense and best in return (in requited reward).

19/Maryam-77: Afaraayta allathee kafara biayatina waqala laootayanna malan wawaladan
Have you, then, seen him who disbelieves in Our Verses (Signs) and says: I shall certainly be given wealth and children?

19/Maryam-78: AttalaAAa alghayba ami ittakhatha AAinda alrrahmani AAahdan
Has he gained knowledge of the Unseen or has he made a pact (Ahd) with the All-Merciful (God)?

19/Maryam-79: Kalla sanaktubu ma yaqoolu wanamuddu lahu mina alAAathabi maddan
By no means! We write down what he says; and We will lengthen to him the length of the torment (punishment).

19/Maryam-80: Wanarithuhu ma yaqoolu wayateena fardan
And We will inherit from him what he says, and he shall come to Us alone (without wealth and children).

19/Maryam-81: Waittakhathoo min dooni Allahi alihatan liyakoonoo lahum AAizzan
And they have taken gods besides Allah, that they should be to them a source of strength (honor);

19/Maryam-82: Kalla sayakfuroona biAAibadatihim wayakoonoona AAalayhim diddan
By no means! They shall soon deny their worshipping them, and they shall be adversaries to them.

19/Maryam-83: Alam tara anna arsalna alshshayateena AAala alkafireena taozzuhum azzan
Do you not see that We have sent the devils (satans) against the disbelievers, inciting them by incitement?

19/Maryam-84: Fala taAAjal AAalayhim innama naAAuddu lahum AAaddan
Therefore be not in haste against them; We only number out to them a number (of days).

19/Maryam-85: Yawma nahshuru almuttaqeena ila alrrahmani wafdan
The Day We shall gather the owners of piety to the All-Merciful (God) like a delegation (presented before the king for honor).

19/Maryam-86: Wanasooqu almujrimeena ila jahannama wirdan
And We shall drive the criminals (guilty) to Hell thirsty (like a thirsty herd driven down to water).

19/Maryam-87: La yamlikoona alshshafaAAata illa mani ittakhatha AAinda alrrahmani AAahdan
None shall have the power to intercede except the one who has taken a promise (pact, AHD) from the All-Merciful (God).

19/Maryam-88: Waqaloo ittakhatha alrrahmanu waladan
And they say: The All-Merciful (God) has taken (to Himself) a son.

19/Maryam-89: Laqad jitum shayan iddan
Certainly you have made (said) an abominable thing.

19/Maryam-90: Takadu alssamawatu yatafattarna minhu watanshaqqu alardu watakhirru aljibalu haddan
The heavens might almost be rent thereat, and the earth cleave asunder, and the mountains fall down in pieces (collapse in a heap).

19/Maryam-91: An daAAaw lilrrahmani waladan
That they ascribe a son to the All-Merciful (God).

19/Maryam-92: Wama yanbaghee lilrrahmani an yattakhitha waladan
And it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the All-Merciful (Allah) that He should take (to Himself) a son.

19/Maryam-93: In kullu man fee alssamawati waalardi illa atee alrrahmani AAabdan
There is none in the heavens and the earth but shall come to the All-Merciful (God) as a servant.

19/Maryam-94: Laqad ahsahum waAAaddahum AAaddan
He takes account of them (all), and He has numbered them a (comprehensive) numbering.

19/Maryam-95: Wakulluhum ateehi yawma alqiyamati fardan
And every one of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone (individually).

19/Maryam-96: Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati sayajAAalu lahumu alrrahmanu wuddan
Surely (as for) those who believe (become âmenû, who wish to reach Allah before dying) and do improving deeds (the soul’s purification), for them will Allah bring about love (Allah will make them those who are loved).

19/Maryam-97: Fainnama yassarnahu bilisanika litubashshira bihi almuttaqeena watunthira bihi qawman luddan
So We have only made it (the Qur’ân) easy in your tongue (language) that you may give glad tidings thereby to the owners of piety and warn thereby a vehemently contentious people.

19/Maryam-98: Wakam ahlakna qablahum min qarnin hal tuhissu minhum min ahadin aw tasmaAAu lahum rikzan
And how many a generation have We destroyed before them? Do you see any one of them or hear even a whisper of them?
