Sura List » Luqman

31/Luqman-1: Aliflammeem
Alif-Lâm-Mîm. [These disjointed letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’ân, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].

31/Luqman-2: Tilka ayatu alkitabi alhakeemi
These are Verses of the All-Wise (full of Wisdom and Judgement) Book.

31/Luqman-3: Hudan warahmatan lilmuhsineena
A Guidance [that which makes (men) reach Guidance] and a Mercy for the good-doers (Al-Muhsinîn).

31/Luqman-4: Allatheena yuqeemoona alssalata wayutoona alzzakata wahum bialakhirati hum yooqinoona
Those who keep up the Prayer(s) and pay the poor-rate (give Zakât) and they have faith in the Hereafter with certainty (yaqîn) [they have faith in reaching Allah before dying with certainty].

31/Luqman-5: Olaika AAala hudan min rabbihim waolaika humu almuflihoona
These are on a Guidance from their Lord, and these are they who are successful (who have attained to the Salvation).

31/Luqman-6: Wamina alnnasi man yashtaree lahwa alhadeethi liyudilla AAan sabeeli Allahi bighayri AAilmin wayattakhithaha huzuwan olaika lahum AAathabun muheenun
And of the men is he who purchases frivolous discourse to lead astray from the Way of Allah without knowledge and to take it for a mockery; for such there will be a humiliating (abasing) torment.

31/Luqman-7: Waitha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna walla mustakbiran kaan lam yasmaAAha kaanna fee othunayhi waqran fabashshirhu biAAathabin aleemin
And when Our Verses (Revelations, Signs…) are recited (read and explained) to him, he turns back proudly (in pride), as if he had not heard them, as though in his ears were a heaviness, therefore give him tidings of a painful torment.

31/Luqman-8: Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lahum jannatu alnnaAAeemi
(As for) those who believe (are âmenû, who wish to reach Allah while they are living) and do improving deeds (do the soul’s purification), for them are Gardens of Delight (Naîm, full of Blessings).

31/Luqman-9: Khalideena feeha waAAda Allahi haqqan wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeemu
Abiding in them (forever); the Promise of Allah is true; and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise (the Owner of Wisdom and Judgement).

31/Luqman-10: Khalaqa alssamawati bighayri AAamadin tarawnaha waalqa fee alardi rawasiya an tameeda bikum wabaththa feeha min kulli dabbatin waanzalna mina alssamai maan faanbatna feeha min kulli zawjin kareemin
He created the heavens without pillars as you see them and has cast in the earth firm mountains lest it might convulse (shake, quake) with you; and He spread in it moving (living) creatures of every kind, and We sent down water (rain) from the sky, then caused to grow therein of every noble (generous, kerîm, offered by Allah) pair.

31/Luqman-11: Hatha khalqu Allahi faaroonee matha khalaqa allatheena min doonihi bali alththalimoona fee dalalin mubeenin
This is Allah’s creation. So show Me what those besides Him have created. Nay, the wrong-doers (Az-Zâlimûn) are in manifest Misguidance.

31/Luqman-12: Walaqad atayna luqmana alhikmata ani oshkur lillahi waman yashkur fainnama yashkuru linafsihi waman kafara fainna Allaha ghaniyyun hameedun
And certainly We gave wisdom to Luqmân (saying): Be grateful to Allah. And whoever is grateful (gives thanks), he is only grateful for his own soul; and whoever is ungrateful (disbelieves, denies), then Allah is Self-Sufficient (All-Rich, Free of all needs), Praised (Praiseworthy).

31/Luqman-13: Waith qala luqmanu liibnihi wahuwa yaAAithuhu ya bunayya la tushrik biAllahi inna alshshirka lathulmun AAatheemun
And when Luqmân said to his son while he admonished him: O my son! Do not associate anything with Allah; most surely ascribing partners (to Allah, associating others with Allah) is a tremendous wrong.

31/Luqman-14: Wawassayna alinsana biwalidayhi hamalathu ommuhu wahnan AAala wahnin wafisaluhu fee AAamayni ani oshkur lee waliwalidayka ilayya almaseeru
And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and kind) to his parents; his mother bears him in weakness upon weakness and his weaning is in two years, (saying): Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; Unto Me is the journeying’s end.

31/Luqman-15: Wain jahadaka AAala an tushrika bee ma laysa laka bihi AAilmun fala tutiAAhuma wasahibhuma fee alddunya maAAroofan waittabiAA sabeela man anaba ilayya thumma ilayya marjiAAukum faonabbiokum bima kuntum taAAmaloona
And if they strive with you that you should associate with Me that of which You have no knowledge, do not obey them, and keep company with them in this world kindly and follow the Way of those who turn to Me (who wish to make their spirits reach Me), then to Me is your return, then will I inform you of what you used to do.

31/Luqman-16: Ya bunayya innaha in taku mithqala habbatin min khardalin fatakun fee sakhratin aw fee alssamawati aw fee alardi yati biha Allahu inna Allaha lateefun khabeerun
O my son! Surely if it (that deed of yours) is the very weight of the grain of a mustard-seed, even though it is in (the heart of) a rock, or (high above) in the heavens or (deep down) in the earth, Allah will bring it (before you in your life film on the Day of Resurrection); surely Allah is Subtle (all-Knower of subtleties, “Latîf”, Kind, Lovely, Bestower of Bounty), All-Aware.

31/Luqman-17: Ya bunayya aqimi alssalata wamur bialmaAAroofi wainha AAani almunkari waisbir AAala ma asabaka inna thalika min AAazmi alomoori
O my son! Keep up the Prayer(s) and enjoin (on people) Al-Ma’rûf (all that Allah has commanded, all that is good) and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (denial, all that Allah has forbidden, all that is evil) and bear with patience whatever befalls you; surely these are of the affairs to be resolved upon. (these are of the matters to be fulfilled absolutely).

31/Luqman-18: Wala tusaAAAAir khaddaka lilnnasi wala tamshi fee alardi marahan inna Allaha la yuhibbu kulla mukhtalin fakhoorin
And do not turn your cheek away from people (with pride), nor go about in the land exulting overmuch; surely Allah does not love any self-conceited boaster.

31/Luqman-19: Waiqsid fee mashyika waoghdud min sawtika inna ankara alaswati lasawtu alhameeri
Be moderate in your walking and lower your voice; surely the harshest of all voices is the braying of the ass (es).

31/Luqman-20: Alam taraw anna Allaha sakhkhara lakum ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi waasbagha AAalaykum niAAamahu thahiratan wabatinatan wamina alnnasi man yujadilu fee Allahi bighayri AAilmin wala hudan wala kitabin muneerin
Do you not see that Allah has made what is in the heavens and what is in the earth subservient to you and made complete to you His blessings outwardly and inwardly? Yet of mankind are those who dispute concerning Allah without knowledge or a guide (the one who makes them reach Guidance), or a Book giving light (an enlightening Book).

31/Luqman-21: Waitha qeela lahumu ittabiAAoo ma anzala Allahu qaloo bal nattabiAAu ma wajadna AAalayhi abaana awalaw kana alshshaytanu yadAAoohum ila AAathabi alssaAAeeri
And when it is said to them: Follow what (the Book) Allah has sent down, they say: Nay, we follow that (the idols) on which we found our fathers. What! though Satan calls them to the torment of the burning fire (of the Flame, of Hell)?

31/Luqman-22: Waman yuslim wajhahu ila Allahi wahuwa muhsinun faqadi istamsaka bialAAurwati alwuthqa waila Allahi AAaqibatu alomoori
And whoever surrenders his face (his physical body) to Allah and he is a good-doer (as a muhsin, a good-doer), then he verily grasped the firmest hand-hold and the end of the affairs (orders) is to Allah (reaches Allah).

31/Luqman-23: Waman kafara fala yahzunka kufruhu ilayna marjiAAuhum fanunabbiohum bima AAamiloo inna Allaha AAaleemun bithati alssudoori
And whoever disbelieves, let not his disbelief grieve you; to Us is their return, then will We inform them of what they did; surely Allah is the All-Knower of what is in the breasts.

31/Luqman-24: NumattiAAuhum qaleelan thumma nadtarruhum ila AAathabin ghaleethin
We let them enjoy (We give them subsistence) a little, then We drive them to a heavy torment.

31/Luqman-25: Walain saaltahum man khalaqa alssamawati waalarda layaqoolunna Allahu quli alhamdu lillahi bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona
And if you ask them: Who created the heavens and the earth, they will certainly say: Allah. Say: All praise is due to Allah; nay! Most of them do not know.

31/Luqman-26: Lillahi ma fee alssamawati waalardi inna Allaha huwa alghaniyyu alhameedu
What is in the heavens and the earth is Allah’s; surely Allah, He is Self-Sufficient (All-Rich, Free of all needs), the Praised.

31/Luqman-27: Walaw annama fee alardi min shajaratin aqlamun waalbahru yamudduhu min baAAdihi sabAAatu abhurin ma nafidat kalimatu Allahi inna Allaha AAazeezun hakeemun
And if all the trees on the earth were (made into) pens and the sea, with seven more seas to help it (were ink), the Words of Allah would not be exhausted; surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

31/Luqman-28: Ma khalqukum wala baAAthukum illa kanafsin wahidatin inna Allaha sameeAAun baseerun
Neither your creation nor your raising is anything but as a single soul [The creation of you all and the resurrection of you all are only as (the creation and resurrection of) a single person]; surely Allah is All-Hearer, All-Seer.

31/Luqman-29: Alam tara anna Allaha yooliju allayla fee alnnahari wayooliju alnnahara fee allayli wasakhkhara alshshamsa waalqamara kullun yajree ila ajalin musamman waanna Allaha bima taAAmaloona khabeerun
Do you not see that Allah causes the night to pass (penetrate) into the day and causes the day to pass into the night; and has subjected the sun and the moon; each pursues its course till a named (appointed) term; and that Allah is All-Informed of what you do?

31/Luqman-30: Thalika bianna Allaha huwa alhaqqu waanna ma yadAAoona min doonihi albatilu waanna Allaha huwa alAAaliyyu alkabeeru
This is because Allah is the Truth, and that which they call upon besides Him is the falsehood (Al-Bâtıl), and because Allah, He is the Most High, the Most Great.

31/Luqman-31: Alam tara anna alfulka tajree fee albahri biniAAmati Allahi liyuriyakum min ayatihi inna fee thalika laayatin likulli sabbarin shakoorin
Do you not see that the ships sail through the sea by Allah’s Favor (with Allah’s Blessing), that He may show you of His Signs? Most surely there are Signs in this for every patient endurer, grateful one.

31/Luqman-32: Waitha ghashiyahum mawjun kaalththulali daAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu alddeena falamma najjahum ila albarri faminhum muqtasidun wama yajhadu biayatina illa kullu khattarin kafoorin
And when a wave overwhelms them like dark shadows, they call upon (invoke) Allah, making their religion pure for Him only, but when He brings them safe to the land, some of them follow the middle course; and none denies knowingly Our Signs (Verses) but every very perfidious, very ungrateful one.

31/Luqman-33: Ya ayyuha alnnasu ittaqoo rabbakum waikhshaw yawman la yajzee walidun AAan waladihi wala mawloodun huwa jazin AAan walidihi shayan inna waAAda Allahi haqqun fala taghurrannakumu alhayatu alddunya wala yaghurrannakum biAllahi algharooru
O mankind! Have piety towards your Lord and dread the Day when a father will not be able to requite his child for anything (when a father will not be able to help him) nor will the child be able to requite his father for anything; surely the Promise of Allah is the very truth, therefore let not the life of the world deceive you, nor let the Arch-Deceiver (Garûr) deceive you with Allah (in regard to Allah).

31/Luqman-34: Inna Allaha AAindahu AAilmu alssaAAati wayunazzilu alghaytha wayaAAlamu ma fee alarhami wama tadree nafsun matha taksibu ghadan wama tadree nafsun biayyi ardin tamootu inna Allaha AAaleemun khabeerun
Surely Allah! In His Presence (with Him) is the knowledge of the Hour (of the Day of Resurrection) and He sends down the rain and He knows what is in the wombs; no soul knows what it will earn tomorrow; and no soul knows in what land it will die; surely Allah is All-Knower, All-Informed (All-Aware).
