Sura List » Al-Qalam

68/Al-Qalam-1: Noon waalqalami wama yasturoona
Nûn [These disjointed letters (Nûn, etc) are one of the miracles of the Qur’ân, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Pen and what they write down (line by line)

68/Al-Qalam-2: Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoonin
By the Blessing of Allah you are not mad (possessed one).

68/Al-Qalam-3: Wainna laka laajran ghayra mamnoonin
And most surely, for you will be a reward never to be cut off.

68/Al-Qalam-4: Wainnaka laAAala khuluqin AAatheemin
And most surely you are on an exalted (standard of) character (moralty).

68/Al-Qalam-5: Fasatubsiru wayubsiroona
So you shall soon see, and they (too) shall see,

68/Al-Qalam-6: Biayyikumu almaftoonu
Which of you is the demented (has lost his reason).

68/Al-Qalam-7: Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bialmuhtadeena
Surely your Lord best knows him who has gone astray from His Way, and He best knows those who have attained to Guidance.

68/Al-Qalam-8: Fala tutiAAi almukaththibeena
Therefore, do not obey the deniers (those who belie the Verses of Allah).

68/Al-Qalam-9: Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoona
They wish that you should be pliant (lenient) so they (too) would be pliant (lenient).

68/Al-Qalam-10: Wala tutiAA kulla hallafin maheenin
And do not obey (yield to) any mean swearer (the one who swears much and is worthless, mean).

68/Al-Qalam-11: Hammazin mashshain binameemin
Defamer (detracter, the one who seeks faults incessantly), going about with slanders (calumnies)

68/Al-Qalam-12: MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheemin
Hinderer of the good, outstepping the limits, sinful

68/Al-Qalam-13: AAutullin baAAda thalika zaneemin
Ignoble (violent and cruel) besides all that, baseborn (getting illegally).

68/Al-Qalam-14: An kana tha malin wabaneena
Because he possesses wealth and sons (do not obey all these)

68/Al-Qalam-15: Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna qala asateeru alawwaleena
When Our Verses (Signs) are recited (read and explained) to them, he says: Mere tales of the men of old.

68/Al-Qalam-16: Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoomi
Soon We shall brand him on the snout (nose)!

68/Al-Qalam-17: Inna balawnahum kama balawna ashaba aljannati ith aqsamoo layasrimunnaha musbiheena
Surely We have tried them as We have tried the people of the garden, when they swore to pluck its fruit in the morning.

68/Al-Qalam-18: Wala yastathnoona
And they did not except (such as: if it be Allah’s Will).

68/Al-Qalam-19: Fatafa AAalayha taifun min rabbika wahum naimoona
Then there passed by on the (garden) a visitation (a disaster) from your Lord while they were sleeping.

68/Al-Qalam-20: Faasbahat kaalssareemi
And it became as black, barren land.

68/Al-Qalam-21: Fatanadaw musbiheena
And they called out to each other at daybreak (as soon as the morning broke).

68/Al-Qalam-22: Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum in kuntum sarimeena
Saying: Hurry to your tilth if you would pluck the fruits.

68/Al-Qalam-23: Faintalaqoo wahum yatakhafatoona
So they went off, whispering to one another.

68/Al-Qalam-24: An la yadkhulannaha alyawma AAalaykum miskeenun
Saying: No needy man will enter it today against you.

68/Al-Qalam-25: Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireena
And they went in the morning with strong intention, thinking that they have power (to prevent the needy taking anything of the fruits of it).

68/Al-Qalam-26: Falamma raawha qaloo inna ladalloona
But when they saw it (the situation of the orchard) they said: Most surely we have gone astray (We are they who are in Misguidance).

68/Al-Qalam-27: Bal nahnu mahroomoona
(Then they said): Nay! Indeed we are deprived (of the fruits)!

68/Al-Qalam-28: Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakum lawla tusabbihoona
The best of them (the one of them who thought the most reasonably) said: Did I not say to you: Should you not glorify (Him?) (If you do not glorify (Allah), that will not do!

68/Al-Qalam-29: Qaloo subhana rabbina inna kunna thalimeena
They said: Glory be to our Lord, surely We have been unjust (we have assuredly done wrong.)

68/Al-Qalam-30: Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatalawamoona
Then some of them advanced against others (then some of them spoke to others), blaming each other.

68/Al-Qalam-31: Qaloo ya waylana inna kunna tagheena
They said: Woe to us! Surely we have been inordinate.

68/Al-Qalam-32: AAasa rabbuna an yubdilana khayran minha inna ila rabbina raghiboona
Maybe, our Lord will give us instead one better than this; surely to our Lord we turn (for our Lord we call).

68/Al-Qalam-33: Kathalika alAAathabu walaAAathabu alakhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoona
Such is the torment (in this world) and certainly the Torment of the Hereafter is greater, did they but know!

68/Al-Qalam-34: Inna lilmuttaqeena AAinda rabbihim jannati alnnaAAeemi
Surely for the owners of piety there are Gardens of bliss and abundance (Naîm) with their Lord.

68/Al-Qalam-35: AfanajAAalu almuslimeena kaalmujrimeena
What! Shall We then make those who submit (to Allah, muslimîn) as the criminals (guilty)?

68/Al-Qalam-36: Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoona
What is the matter with you? How do you judge?

68/Al-Qalam-37: Am lakum kitabun feehi tadrusoona
Or have you a Book from which you acquire knowledge (wherein you learn)?

68/Al-Qalam-38: Inna lakum feehi lama takhayyaroona
(That is written in it) that you have surely therein what you choose?

68/Al-Qalam-39: Am lakum aymanun AAalayna balighatun ila yawmi alqiyamati inna lakum lama tahkumoona
Or have you oaths from Us, reaching to the Day of Resurrection that yours will be what you judge?

68/Al-Qalam-40: Salhum ayyuhum bithalika zaAAeemun
Ask them which of them will vouch for that (is the defender of this).

68/Al-Qalam-41: Am lahum shurakao falyatoo bishurakaihim in kanoo sadiqeena
Or are there associates for them, then let them bring their associates, if they are truthful.

68/Al-Qalam-42: Yawma yukshafu AAan saqin wayudAAawna ila alssujoodi fala yastateeAAoona
On the Day when it is opened of the calf (when all the truths will come out openly), and they shall be called to prostrate themselves but they shall not be able (to do so).

68/Al-Qalam-43: KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun waqad kanoo yudAAawna ila alssujoodi wahum salimoona
Their look cast down, and abasement (ignominy) will cover them; they used to be called to prostrate themselves while they were healthy and good (safe).

68/Al-Qalam-44: Fatharnee waman yukaththibu bihatha alhadeethi sanastadrijuhum min haythu la yaAAlamoona
So leave Me and him who belies this Word; We will lead them step by step (slowly, to the torment) from whence they do not perceive.

68/Al-Qalam-45: Waomlee lahum inna kaydee mateenun
And I will grant them a respite, surely My plan is firm.

68/Al-Qalam-46: Am tasaluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muthqaloona
Or is it that you ask them a wage, so that they are heavily burdened with debt?

68/Al-Qalam-47: Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboona
Or that the Unseen (the unknown worlds) is near them, so that they write (it) down?

68/Al-Qalam-48: Faisbir lihukmi rabbika wala takun kasahibi alhooti ith nada wahuwa makthoomun
So wait patiently for the Judgment of your Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish (like him who was swallowed by the fish, Jonah), when he cried out (to us) while he was in deep sorrow.

68/Al-Qalam-49: Lawla an tadarakahu niAAmatun min rabbihi lanubitha bialAAarai wahuwa mathmoomun
Had not a Blessing from his Lord reached him, he would certainly have been cast down upon the naked ground while he was blamed.

68/Al-Qalam-50: Faijtabahu rabbuhu fajaAAalahu mina alssaliheena
Then his Lord chose him, and He made him of the improved ones.

68/Al-Qalam-51: Wain yakadu allatheena kafaroo layuzliqoonaka biabsarihim lamma samiAAoo alththikra wayaqooloona innahu lamajnoonun
And those who disbelieve would almost beat you down to the ground (smite you) with their eyes when they hear the Reminder (the Qur’ân) and they say: Most surely he is indeed mad.

68/Al-Qalam-52: Wama huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameena
And it is nothing else than a Reminder (Dhikr) for the Worlds (nations, creation).
