73/Al-Muzzammil-1: Ya ayyuha almuzzammilu
O you (Muhammad, pbbuh) wrapped up in garments!
73/Al-Muzzammil-2: Qumi allayla illa qaleelan
Stand (Keep vigil) all night, except a little,
73/Al-Muzzammil-3: Nisfahu awi onqus minhu qaleelan
Half of it, or lessen it a little,
73/Al-Muzzammil-4: Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqurana tarteelan
Or add to it ,and recite the Qur’an (aloud) in a slow, measured rhythmic tone (as it ought to be recited)
73/Al-Muzzammil-5: Inna sanulqee AAalayka qawlan thaqeelan
Surely we will make to light upon you a heavy Word.
73/Al-Muzzammil-6: Inna nashiata allayli hiya ashaddu watan waaqwamu qeelan
Surely the rising by night is (very hard but) stronger in effectiveness (suitableness) and more secure in recitation (speech).
73/Al-Muzzammil-7: Inna laka fee alnnahari sabhan taweelan
Surely, there is for you by day a prolonged occupation (with ordinary duties)
73/Al-Muzzammil-8: Waothkuri isma rabbika watabattal ilayhi tabteelan
and remember (repeat) the Name of your Lord and turn to Him (reach Him) by detaching (disconnecting) yourself from everything.
73/Al-Muzzammil-9: Rabbu almashriqi waalmaghribi la ilaha illa huwa faittakhithhu wakeelan
(He is) the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him (Alone) for a Trustee (Proxy)
73/Al-Muzzammil-10: Waisbir AAala ma yaqooloona waohjurhum hajran jameelan
And bear with patience (be patient with) what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance (and depart from them with a becoming departing)
73/Al-Muzzammil-11: Watharnee waalmukaththibeena olee alnnaAAmati wamahhilhum qaleelan
And leave Me and the beliers, the possessors of ease and plenty (blessings), and respite them a little.
73/Al-Muzzammil-12: Inna ladayna ankalan wajaheeman
Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a blazing Fire.
73/Al-Muzzammil-13: WataAAaman tha ghussatin waAAathaban aleeman
And a food that chokes, and a painful torment
73/Al-Muzzammil-14: Yawma tarjufu alardu waaljibalu wakanati aljibalu katheeban maheelan
On the Day when the earth and the mountains shall quake (be in a violent shake), and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose.
73/Al-Muzzammil-15: Inna arsalna ilaykum rasoolan shahidan AAalaykum kama arsalna ila firAAawna rasoolan
Surely We have sent to you a Messenger, to be a witness over you, as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh.
73/Al-Muzzammil-16: FaAAasa firAAawnu alrrasoola faakhathnahu akhthan wabeelan
But Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger, so We seized him with a severe Seizure.
73/Al-Muzzammil-17: Fakayfa tattaqoona in kafartum yawman yajAAalu alwildana sheeban
How, then will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve (deny), on the Day which shall make children gray-headed?
73/Al-Muzzammil-18: Alssamao munfatirun bihi kana waAAduhu mafAAoolan
The heaven shall rend asunder with it (with the violence of that Day): His Promise is ever brought to fulfillment
73/Al-Muzzammil-19: Inna hathihi tathkiratun faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeelan
surely this is a Reminder (admonition); then whoever will, let him take a Way (that will make his spirit lead before dying) to his Lord.
73/Al-Muzzammil-20: Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adna min thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wataifatun mina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiru allayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohu fataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara mina alqurani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoona yadriboona fee alardi yabtaghoona min fadli Allahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata waaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wama tuqaddimoo lianfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahi huwa khayran waaAAthama ajran waistaghfiroo Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
Surely your Lord knows that you do stand (to recite the Qur´an, to make dhikr, to be qânitin, to perform the prayer of Tahajjud) nearly two-thirds of the night, and (sometimes) half of it, and (sometimes) a third of it, and (also) a party of those with you; and Allah measures (foreordains) the night and the day. He knows that you cannot count it (you cannot determine exactly the times of the night), so He has turned to you (in repentance), therefore read what is easy of the Qur´an. He knows that there must be among you sick, and others who travel in the land seeking of the Bounty of Allah, and others who fight in the Way of Allah, therefore read as much of it as is easy (to you), and keep up the prayer(s) and give the Zakât (poor-rate), and lend to Allah a goodly loan, and whatever of good you send on beforehand for yourselves, you will find it with Allah (in the Divine Presence) as a better and greater reward. And ask forgiveness of Allah; Surely Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
