74/Al-Muddaththir-1: Ya ayyuha almuddaththiru
O you who are clothed (enveloped in garments)!
74/Al-Muddaththir-2: Qum faanthir
Arise and warn!
74/Al-Muddaththir-3: Warabbaka fakabbir
and your Lord do magnify,
74/Al-Muddaththir-4: Wathiyabaka fatahhir
and your garments do cleanse.
74/Al-Muddaththir-5: Waalrrujza faohjur
And keep away from uncleanness (from all that will cause the torment)
74/Al-Muddaththir-6: Wala tamnun tastakthiru
and do not bestow favors (do not do well) that you may receive again with increase (in order to have more in exchange)
74/Al-Muddaththir-7: Walirabbika faisbir
and for (the sake of) your Lord, be patient
74/Al-Muddaththir-8: Faitha nuqira fee alnnaqoori
and for (the sake of) your Lord, be patient
74/Al-Muddaththir-9: Fathalika yawmaithin yawmun AAaseerun
Surely that Day (of Permission) will be a Hard Day
74/Al-Muddaththir-10: AAala alkafireena ghayru yaseerin
For the disbelievers, it is far from easy
74/Al-Muddaththir-11: Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheedan
Leave Me and him whom I created alone
74/Al-Muddaththir-12: WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdoodan
And then granted him ample means (resources in abundance, vast riches)
74/Al-Muddaththir-13: Wabaneena shuhoodan
And sons abiding in his presence (And children to be by his side)
74/Al-Muddaththir-14: Wamahhadtu lahu tamheedan
I provided him with ample means by granting him (blessings) in abundance.
74/Al-Muddaththir-15: Thumma yatmaAAu an azeeda
And yet he desires that I should add more.
74/Al-Muddaththir-16: Kalla innahu kana liayatina AAaneedan
By no means! Surely he has been obstinate about (denying) our Verses (Signs)
74/Al-Muddaththir-17: Saorhiquhu saAAoodan
I shall soon oblige him to (climb) a steep upward slope (a slippery mountain in the Hell-Fire, As-Sa’ûd).
74/Al-Muddaththir-18: Innahu fakkara waqaddara
Surely he thought (about the Qur’an) and decided (estimated).
74/Al-Muddaththir-19: Faqutila kayfa qaddara
But may he be cursed (he has ruined himself by being expelled from Allah’s Mercy) how he decided (estimated);
74/Al-Muddaththir-20: Thumma qutila kayfa qaddara
Again may he be cursed (he has ruined himself by being repelled from Allah’s Mercy) how he decided (estimated)
74/Al-Muddaththir-21: Thumma nathara
Then he looked (round)
74/Al-Muddaththir-22: Thumma AAabasa wabasara
Then he frowned and scowled
74/Al-Muddaththir-23: Thumma adbara waistakbara
Then he turned back, and was big with pride,
74/Al-Muddaththir-24: Faqala in hatha illa sihrun yutharu
Then he said: This is nothing but magic from that of old (narrated from others).
74/Al-Muddaththir-25: In hatha illa qawlu albashari
This is nothing but the word of a mortal (a human being)
74/Al-Muddaththir-26: Saosleehi saqara
Soon I shall cast him into an Intense Fire (Saqar) (Soon I shall burn him in an Intense Fire, soon I shall prop him against an Intense Fire).
74/Al-Muddaththir-27: Wama adraka ma saqaru
And what will make you realize what an Intense Fire (Saqar) is?
74/Al-Muddaththir-28: La tubqee wala tatharu
It leaves nothing (no residue of his burnt flesh) and does not abandon (him to death; his torment continues)
74/Al-Muddaththir-29: Lawwahatun lilbashari
It burns and blackens the skins of men [It scorches the mortal; it( the Qur’an) is the tables for the human being].
74/Al-Muddaththir-30: AAalayha tisAAata AAashara
Over it are nineteen.
74/Al-Muddaththir-31: Wama jaAAalna ashaba alnnari illa malaikatan wama jaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheena kafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitaba wayazdada allatheena amanoo eemanan wala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitaba waalmuminoona waliyaqoola allatheena fee quloobihim maradun waalkafiroona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalika yudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashao wama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wama hiya illa thikra lilbashari
We have not made the wardens of the Fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the Book may be certain (may arrive at a certainty) and those who believe (who are âmenû) may increase in Faith, and those who have been given the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose (souls’) hearts is a disease and the disbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable (example)? Thus Allah leaves in Misguidance whom He wills and He guides whom He wills, and none knows the hosts (soldiers, armies) of your Lord but He Himself; and this is nothing else than a Reminder (admonition) to the mortals (the human beings).
74/Al-Muddaththir-32: Kalla waalqamari
Nay! And (I swear) by the moon
74/Al-Muddaththir-33: Waallayli ith adbara
And by the night when it withdraws (goes back).
74/Al-Muddaththir-34: Waalssubhi itha asfara
And by dawn when it shines (brightens).
74/Al-Muddaththir-35: Innaha laihda alkubari
Surely it (Saqar, Intense Fire, or the Qur’an) is one of the greatest (portents).
74/Al-Muddaththir-36: Natheeran lilbashari
(As) a warning to the mortals (the human beings).
74/Al-Muddaththir-37: Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama aw yataakhkhara
To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind.
74/Al-Muddaththir-38: Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheenatun
Every soul is held in pledge for what it has earned (earns).
74/Al-Muddaththir-39: Illa ashaba alyameeni
Except the owners of the oath (those who have fulfilled their oath)
74/Al-Muddaththir-40: Fee jannatin yatasaaloona
(They are) in Gardens, they shall ask one another
74/Al-Muddaththir-41: AAani almujrimeena
about the criminals (the guilty)
74/Al-Muddaththir-42: Ma salakakum fee saqara
what has brought you into Saqar (Intense Fire, Hellfire)?
74/Al-Muddaththir-43: Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleena
They will say: we were not of those who used to offer the salât (prayers)
74/Al-Muddaththir-44: Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeena
nor we used to feed the needy (Al- Miskîn)
74/Al-Muddaththir-45: Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkhaideena
and we used to plunge into vain discourse with those who plunged into vain discourses.
74/Al-Muddaththir-46: Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi alddeeni
And we used to belie (deny) the Day of Recompense (the Day of the Religion)
74/Al-Muddaththir-47: Hatta atana alyaqeenu
Till what is certain (the moment of death) came to us.
74/Al-Muddaththir-48: Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu alshshafiAAeena
So the intercession of the intercessors shall not avail them.
74/Al-Muddaththir-49: Fama lahum AAani alttathkirati muAArideena
What is then the matter with them that they turn away from the admonition (dhikr, remembrance)?
74/Al-Muddaththir-50: Kaannahum humurun mustanfiratun
As if they were asses taking fright
74/Al-Muddaththir-51: Farrat min qaswaratin
Fleeing from a lion ( a beast of prey, a hunter by arrows)
74/Al-Muddaththir-52: Bal yureedu kullu imriin minhum an yuta suhufan munashsharatan
Nay: every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out (unrolled before him).
74/Al-Muddaththir-53: Kalla bal la yakhafoona alakhirata
Nay! But they do not fear the Hereafter
74/Al-Muddaththir-54: Kalla innahu tathkiratun
Nay! It is surely an admonition (Dhikr).
74/Al-Muddaththir-55: Faman shaa thakarahu
So whoever pleases may deliberate (remember) it (receive admonition from it).
74/Al-Muddaththir-56: Wama yathkuroona illa an yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu alttaqwa waahlu almaghfirati
And they cannot deliberate (mind, receive admonition) unless Allah wills, he (whom He wills) is the owner of piety and the owner of forgiveness (the one whose evil deeds are changed into rewards).
