Sura List » Al-Kahf

18/Al-Kahf-1: Alhamdu lillahi allathee anzala AAala AAabdihi alkitaba walam yajAAal lahu AAiwajan
(All) praise is due to Allah, Who has sent down to His servant the Book (the Qur’ân) and has not made in it any crookedness.

18/Al-Kahf-2: Qayyiman liyunthira basan shadeedan min ladunhu wayubashshira almumineena allatheena yaAAmaloona alssalihati anna lahum ajran hasanan
(He has made it) rightly directing and lasting (until the Day of Resurrection), that He might give warning of severe torment (punishment) from Him and give glad tidings to the believers who do improving deeds that for them there is a goodly reward.

18/Al-Kahf-3: Makitheena feehi abadan
Staying in it for ever.

18/Al-Kahf-4: Wayunthira allatheena qaloo ittakhatha Allahu waladan
And (the glorious Qur’ân) warn those who say: Allah has taken (begotten) a son.

18/Al-Kahf-5: Ma lahum bihi min AAilmin wala liabaihim kaburat kalimatan takhruju min afwahihim in yaqooloona illa kathiban
They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers; great (mighty, dreadful) is the word that comes out of their mouths; they utter nothing but a lie.

18/Al-Kahf-6: FalaAAallaka bakhiAAun nafsaka AAala atharihim in lam yuminoo bihatha alhadeethi asafan
Then maybe you will kill yourself with grief, sorrowing after them, if they do not believe in this announcement (in the Qur’ân).

18/Al-Kahf-7: Inna jaAAalna ma AAala alardi zeenatan laha linabluwahum ayyuhum ahsanu AAamalan
Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment (adornment) for it, so that We may try (test) them (as to) which of them is best in deeds (works).

18/Al-Kahf-8: Wainna lajaAAiloona ma AAalayha saAAeedan juruzan
And most surely We will make what is on it (the earth) a bare dry soil (without any vegetation and trees).

18/Al-Kahf-9: Am hasibta anna ashaba alkahfi waalrraqeemi kanoo min ayatina AAajaban
Or, do you consider (reckon) that the Companions of the Cave and the Inscription were of Our wonderful Signs?

18/Al-Kahf-10: Ith awa alfityatu ila alkahfi faqaloo rabbana atina min ladunka rahmatan wahayyi lana min amrina rashadan
When the youths sought refuge in the Cave, they said; Our Lord! Grant us mercy from Your Presence and appoint for us a saint guide (murshid) in our affair (from among us, the one who will make us reach the mercy and the benediction that belong to us from your Command).

18/Al-Kahf-11: Fadarabna AAala athanihim fee alkahfi sineena AAadadan
So We cause them to lie down (to go in deep sleep) on their ears (so that they might hear the dhikr of their hearts) in the Cave for a number of years.

18/Al-Kahf-12: Thumma baAAathnahum linaAAlama ayyu alhizbayni ahsa lima labithoo amadan
Then We raised them up (from their sleep) that We might know (determine) which of the two parties was best able to calculate the time for which they remained.

18/Al-Kahf-13: Nahnu naqussu AAalayka nabaahum bialhaqqi innahum fityatun amanoo birabbihim wazidnahum hudan
We relate to you their news with the truth; surely they were youths who believed in their Lord and We increased them (in) Guidance.

18/Al-Kahf-14: Warabatna AAala quloobihim ith qamoo faqaloo rabbuna rabbu alssamawati waalardi lan nadAAuwa min doonihi ilahan laqad qulna ithan shatatan
We established a connection with their hearts (We connected their hearts to us) [and We made their hearts firm and strong],when they stood up and said: Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth; we shall never call upon any god besides Him; for then indeed we should have said an extravagant thing (an outrage).

18/Al-Kahf-15: Haolai qawmuna ittakhathoo min doonihi alihatan lawla yatoona AAalayhim bisultanin bayyinin faman athlamu mimmani iftara AAala Allahi kathiban
These are our people ; they have taken gods besides Him; why do they not bring any clear authority for them? And who does more wrong than he who forges a lie against Allah?

18/Al-Kahf-16: Waithi iAAtazaltumoohum wama yaAAbudoona illa Allaha fawoo ila alkahfi yanshur lakum rabbukum min rahmatihi wayuhayyi lakum min amrikum mirfaqan
And when you depart from them and from that they serve other than Allah, then seek refuge in the cave; your Lord will extend to you largely from His Mercy and make easy for you your affair as a support.

18/Al-Kahf-17: Watara alshshamsa itha talaAAat tazawaru AAan kahfihim thata alyameeni waitha gharabat taqriduhum thata alshshimali wahum fee fajwatin minhu thalika min ayati Allahi man yahdi Allahu fahuwa almuhtadi waman yudlil falan tajida lahu waliyyan murshidan
And you might have seen the sun when it rose declining to the right hand from their Cave and when it set turning away from them to the left hand while they were in a wide space of it. This is of the Signs of Allah; whomsoever Allah causes to reach Himself he has attained to Guidance (whoever does not wish to reach Allah while he is living), for him you will find no “Walî Murshidâ” [the friend who will make him reach the Immaterial Maturity (ırshâd)].

18/Al-Kahf-18: Watahsabuhum ayqathan wahum ruqoodun wanuqallibuhum thata alyameeni wathata alshshimali wakalbuhum basitun thiraAAayhi bialwaseedi lawi ittalaAAta AAalayhim lawallayta minhum firaran walamulita minhum ruAAban
And you would have thought them awake whereas they were asleep And We turned them about to the right and to the left while their dog (lay) outstretching his two forelegs at the entrance (of the Cave or in the space near to the entrance of the Cave). If you had looked at them, you would certainly have turned back from them in flight and would certainly have been filled with terror of them.

18/Al-Kahf-19: Wakathalika baAAathnahum liyatasaaloo baynahum qala qailun minhum kam labithtum qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAda yawmin qaloo rabbukum aAAlamu bima labithtum faibAAathoo ahadakum biwariqikum hathihi ila almadeenati falyanthur ayyuha azka taAAaman falyatikum birizqin minhu walyatalattaf wala yushAAiranna bikum ahadan
And thus did We rouse (brought to life) them that they might question each other. A speaker from among them said: How long have you remained (here)? They said: We have remained for a day or a part of a day. They (others) said: Your Lord knows best how long you have remained. Now send one of you with this silver (coin) of yours to the city, then let him see what food is purest there, so let him bring you provision from it and let him behave with care and gentleness and let no man know of you [and by no means make your case known (perceived) to any one].

18/Al-Kahf-20: Innahum in yathharoo AAalaykum yarjumookum aw yuAAeedookum fee millatihim walan tuflihoo ithan abadan
For surely if they prevail against you they would stone you (to death) or force you back to their religion and then you will never succeed (attain to the Salvation).

18/Al-Kahf-21: Wakathalika aAAtharna AAalayhim liyaAAlamoo anna waAAda Allahi haqqun waanna alsaAAata la rayba feeha ith yatanazaAAoona baynahum amrahum faqaloo ibnoo AAalayhim bunyanan rabbuhum aAAlamu bihim qala allatheena ghalaboo AAala amrihim lanattakhithanna AAalayhim masjidan
And thus did We make (men) to get knowledge of them, that they might know that Allah’s Promise is true and that as for the Hour, there is no doubt about it. When they (the people of the city) disputed among themselves about their affair and said; Erect (build) an edifice over them. Their Lord best knows them. Those who prevailed in their affair said: We will certainly raise a masjid (a place of worship) over them.

18/Al-Kahf-22: Sayaqooloona thalathatun rabiAAuhum kalbuhum wayaqooloona khamsatun sadisuhum kalbuhum rajman bialghaybi wayaqooloona sabAAatun wathaminuhum kalbuhum qul rabbee aAAlamu biAAiddatihim ma yaAAlamuhum illa qaleelun fala tumari feehim illa miraan thahiran wala tastafti feehim minhum ahadan
(Some) say; (They are) three, the fourth of them being their dog, and (others) say; Five, the sixth of them being their dog, making conjectures without knowing at what is unknown, and (others yet) say; Seven, and the eighth of them is their dog. Say; My Lord best knows their number, none knows them but a few; therefore do not contend in the matter of them but with an outward contention, and do not question concerning them any of them.

18/Al-Kahf-23: Wala taqoolanna lishayin innee faAAilun thalika ghadan
And do not say of anything; Surely I will do it tomorrow.

18/Al-Kahf-24: Illa an yashaa Allahu waothkur rabbaka itha naseeta waqul AAasa an yahdiyani rabbee liaqraba min hatha rashadan
(I will do it) if Allah wills (it); and remember your Lord when you forget and say: Maybe my Lord makes me reach a nearer (more superior) level of irshad (immaterial maturity) than this.

18/Al-Kahf-25: Walabithoo fee kahfihim thalatha miatin sineena waizdadoo tisAAan
And they remained in their Cave three hundred (solar) years, adding nine (lunar years).

18/Al-Kahf-26: Quli Allahu aAAlamu bima labithoo lahu ghaybu alssamawati waalardi absir bihi waasmiAA ma lahum min doonihi min waliyyin wala yushriku fee hukmihi ahadan
Say: Allah knows best how long they remained. To Him belongs the Unseen of the heavens and the earth; how clearly He sees (it, the Unseen) and hears (it). There is none to be a protecting friend for them besides Him, and He does not make any one His associate in His Judgement.

18/Al-Kahf-27: Waotlu ma oohiya ilayka min kitabi rabbika la mubaddila likalimatihi walan tajida min doonihi multahadan
And recite ( read and explain ) what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord, there is none who can alter His Words; and you shall not find anyone to be turned to (any refuge)besides Him.

18/Al-Kahf-28: Waisbir nafsaka maAAa allatheena yadAAoona rabbahum bialghadati waalAAashiyyi yureedoona wajhahu wala taAAdu AAaynaka AAanhum tureedu zeenata alhayati alddunya wala tutiAA man aghfalna qalbahu AAan thikrina waittabaAAa hawahu wakana amruhu furutan
And keep yourself (your soul) patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and evening desiring His Face (His Essence Zât) and let not your eyes pass from them desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and do not obey him whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance (dhikr) and who follows (depends on) his own lusts (his low desires) and his affair is one in which due bounds are exceeded.

18/Al-Kahf-29: Waquli alhaqqu min rabbikum faman shaa falyumin waman shaa falyakfur inna aAAtadna lilththalimeena naran ahata bihim suradiquha wain yastagheethoo yughathoo bimain kaalmuhli yashwee alwujooha bisa alshsharabu wasaat murtafaqan
And say: The truth is from your Lord so let him who wills believe and let him who wills disbelieve; surely We have prepared for the wrong-doers a Fire whose walls (curtains) shall encompass them (the disbelievers) about; If they ask for a rain (against the fire) they shall be showered with water (rain) like melted brass which will scald their faces; evil is the drink and ill the resting – place !

18/Al-Kahf-30: Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati inna la nudeeAAu ajra man ahsana AAamalan
Surely (as for) those who believe (those who wish to cause their spirits to reach Allah before dying) and do improving deeds [that purify the souls (‘hearts)] We do not waste the reward (wage) of those who do the best deeds.

18/Al-Kahf-31: Olaika lahum jannatu AAadnin tajree min tahtihimu alanharu yuhallawna feeha min asawira min thahabin wayalbasoona thiyaban khudran min sundusin waistabraqin muttakieena feeha AAala alaraiki niAAma alththawabu wahasunat murtafaqan
These it is for whom are Gardens of Eden (the Very Source of Bliss) under which the rivers flow; ornaments shall be given to them therein of bracelets of gold and they shall wear green garments (robes) of fine silk brocade interwoven with gold, reclining therein on raised couches; how excellent the Recompense and how beautiful a resting–place (support)!

18/Al-Kahf-32: Waidrib lahum mathalan rajulayni jaAAalna liahadihima jannatayni min aAAnabin wahafafnahuma binakhlin wajaAAalna baynahuma zarAAan
And set forth to them a parable (example) of two men; for one of them We made two gardens of grape vines (vineyards) and We surrounded them both with date–palms and in the midst of them We made cornfields (cultivated fields).

18/Al-Kahf-33: Kilta aljannatayni atat okulaha walam tathlim minhu shayan wafajjarna khilalahuma naharan
Both these gardens fielded their fruits (produce) and did not fail anything of it and We caused a river to gush forth in their midst.

18/Al-Kahf-34: Wakana lahu thamarun faqala lisahibihi wahuwa yuhawiruhu ana aktharu minka malan waaAAazzu nafaran
And he possessed much wealth (produce) so he said to his companion while he conversed with him: I am more than you in wealth and stronger in respect of men (followers).

18/Al-Kahf-35: Wadakhala jannatahu wahuwa thalimun linafsihi qala ma athunnu an tabeeda hathihi abadan
And when having thus wronged his soul, he entered his garden. He said: I do not think that this will ever perish.

18/Al-Kahf-36: Wama athunnu alssaAAata qaimatan walain rudidtu ila rabbee laajidanna khayran minha munqalaban
Nor do I believe that the Hour (of Judgement) will ever come and even if I am returned to my Lord, I will most certainly find a returning place better than this.(….find that which will be turned into is better than this).

18/Al-Kahf-37: Qala lahu sahibuhu wahuwa yuhawiruhu akafarta biallathee khalaqaka min turabin thumma min nutfatin thumma sawwaka rajulan
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him: Do you disbelieve in Him Who created you out of dust, then out of a small seed (a sperm-drop) and then fashioned you into a man?

18/Al-Kahf-38: Lakinna huwa Allahu rabbee wala oshriku birabbee ahadan
But as for me: He, Allah, is my Lord and I do not associate anyone with my Lord.

18/Al-Kahf-39: Walawla ith dakhalta jannataka qulta ma shaa Allahu la quwwata illa biAllahi in tarani ana aqalla minka malan wawaladan
Why did you not say when you entered your garden: (This vineyard is) that which Allah wills. There is no power but with Allah? Though you consider me to be inferior to you in wealth and children,

18/Al-Kahf-40: FaAAasa rabbee an yutiyani khayran min jannatika wayursila AAalayha husbanan mina alssamai fatusbiha saAAeedan zalaqan
Than maybe my Lord may give me (something) better than your garden, and send down on it calamities from the sky, then it will be a slippery earth.

18/Al-Kahf-41: Aw yusbiha maoha ghawran falan tastateeAAa lahu talaban
Or the waters thereof (of the gardens) should sink down into the ground so that you are unable to seek it.

18/Al-Kahf-42: Waoheeta bithamarihi faasbaha yuqallibu kaffayhi AAala ma anfaqa feeha wahiya khawiyatun AAala AAurooshiha wayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oshrik birabbee ahadan
And his fruits were encircled (with ruin) so he began to wring his hands for what he had spent on it, while it lay, having fallen down upon its roofs, and he said; Woe is me! Would that I had not associated anyone with my Lord!

18/Al-Kahf-43: Walam takun lahu fiatun yansuroonahu min dooni Allahi wama kana muntasiran
And he had no host to help him besides Allah and he could not help himself.

18/Al-Kahf-44: Hunalika alwalayatu lillahi alhaqqi huwa khayrun thawaban wakhayrun AAuqban
Now here, the protecting friendship (help) is a right due to Allah (Here is protecting only Allah’s, the True One); He is Best in (the giving of) reward and Best for the final end (in requiting).

18/Al-Kahf-45: Waidrib lahum mathala alhayati alddunya kamain anzalnahu mina alssamai faikhtalata bihi nabatu alardi faasbaha hasheeman tathroohu alrriyahu wakana Allahu AAala kulli shayin muqtadiran
And set forth to them a similitude (parable) of the life of the world; (it is) like water which We send down from the sky and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it. (becomes green, grows) then it becomes dry, broken into pieces (stubble) that the wind scatter abroad; and Allah has Power over all things.

18/Al-Kahf-46: Almalu waalbanoona zeenatu alhayati alddunya waalbaqiyatu alssalihatu khayrun AAinda rabbika thawaban wakhayrun amalan
Wealth and children are the adornment (ornament) of the life of this world; and the lasting improving deeds (that improve the soul) are better with your Lord in reward and better in expectation.

18/Al-Kahf-47: Wayawma nusayyiru aljibala watara alarda barizatan wahasharnahum falam nughadir minhum ahadan
And the Day on which We will cause the mountains to pass away and you will see the earth as a leveled plain (obviously) and We will gather them all together and leave not out any one of them.

18/Al-Kahf-48: WaAAuridoo AAala rabbika saffan laqad jitumoona kama khalaqnakum awwala marratin bal zaAAamtum allan najAAala lakum mawAAidan
And they shall be brought before your Lord, standing in ranks: Now certainly you have come to Us as We created you at first. Nay, you were of the opinion that We had not appointed to you a time of the fulfillment of the Promise.

18/Al-Kahf-49: WawudiAAa alkitabu fatara almujrimeena mushfiqeena mimma feehi wayaqooloona ya waylatana ma lihatha alkitabi la yughadiru sagheeratan wala kabeeratan illa ahsaha wawajadoo ma AAamiloo hadiran wala yathlimu rabbuka ahadan
And the Book (the life film) shall be placed (exposed), then you will see the guilty (criminals) fearing from what is in it ,and they will say: Ah! woe to us! what a book is this! It does not omit a small one nor a great one,but numbers them (all); and what they had done they shall find exposed before them (in their life films); and your Lord does not wrong anyone.

18/Al-Kahf-50: Waith qulna lilmalaikati osjudoo liadama fasajadoo illa ibleesa kana mina aljinni fafasaqa AAan amri rabbihi afatattakhithoonahu wathurriyyatahu awliyaa min doonee wahum lakum AAaduwwun bisa lilththalimeena badalan
And (remember) when We said to the angels: Prostrate yourselves before Adam. So they prostrated themselves, except Iblîs (Devil, Satan). He was one of the jinn, so he transgressed the Command of His Lord (He fell into transgression, going out of the Way of Allah), by not doing the Command of his Lord] What! Would you then take him and his offspring for friends rather than Me, and (whereas) they are your enemies? Evil would be the exchange (Hell) for the wrong–doers!

18/Al-Kahf-51: Ma ashhadtuhum khalqa alssamawati waalardi wala khalqa anfusihim wama kuntu muttakhitha almudilleena AAadudan
I did not make them witnesses of the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor of the creation of their own souls; nor could I take those who cause (men) to leave in Misguidance for aiders.

18/Al-Kahf-52: Wayawma yaqoolu nadoo shurakaiya allatheena zaAAamtum fadaAAawhum falam yastajeeboo lahum wajaAAalna baynahum mawbiqan
And on the Day (of Resurrection) He (Allah) shall say: Call on those whom you considered to be My associates. So they shall call on them, but they shall not answer them (the disbelievers), and We will set a gulf (Maubiq) between them.

18/Al-Kahf-53: Waraa almujrimoona alnnara fathannoo annahum muwaqiAAooha walam yajidoo AAanha masrifan
And the guilty (criminal) shall see the Fire (Hell), then they shall know that they are going to fall into it, and they shall not find a place to which to turn away from it.

18/Al-Kahf-54: Walaqad sarrafna fee hatha alqurani lilnnasi min kulli mathalin wakana alinsanu akthara shayin jadalan
And certainly We have explained in this Qur’ân every kind of similitudes (examples); and man is most of all given to contention. (man argues about most things).

18/Al-Kahf-55: Wama manaAAa alnnasa an yuminoo ith jaahumu alhuda wayastaghfiroo rabbahum illa an tatiyahum sunnatu alawwaleena aw yatiyahumu alAAathabu qubulan
And nothing prevents men from believing when Guidance comes to them (when they are called to Guidance), and from asking forgiveness from their Lord, except (it be that they wish) that what happened to the ancients should overtake them, or that the torment should come face to face with them.

18/Al-Kahf-56: Wama nursilu almursaleena illa mubashshireena wamunthireena wayujadilu allatheena kafaroo bialbatili liyudhidoo bihi alhaqqa waittakhathoo ayatee wama onthiroo huzuwan
And We do not send Messengers except as givers of glad tidings and as warners and those who disbelieve dispute with false argument, in order to refute (confute) the truth thereby, and they take My Verses (Signs…) and that with which they are warned for a mockery.

18/Al-Kahf-57: Waman athlamu mimman thukkira biayati rabbihi faaAArada AAanha wanasiya ma qaddamat yadahu inna jaAAalna AAala quloobihim akinnatan an yafqahoohu wafee athanihim waqran wain tadAAuhum ila alhuda falan yahtadoo ithan abadan
And who is more unjust than he who is reminded of the Verses (Signs...) of his Lord, then he turns away from them and forgets what his two hands have sent before (his sins)? Surely We have placed coverings (veils) over their hearts lest they should understand it and a heaviness [that hinders (men) from hearing] in their ears, and if you call them to Guidance, even then they will never attain the Guidance.

18/Al-Kahf-58: Warabbuka alghafooru thoo alrrahmati law yuakhithuhum bima kasaboo laAAajjala lahumu alAAathaba bal lahum mawAAidun lan yajidoo min doonihi mawilan
And your Lord is the Most Forgiving, the Owner of Mercy; were He to question them for what they have earned, He would certainly have hastened the torment for them; but for them there is an appointed time. They shall not find a refuge with other than Him (Allah).

18/Al-Kahf-59: Watilka alqura ahlaknahum lamma thalamoo wajaAAalna limahlikihim mawAAidan
And these towns (population), We destroyed them when they did wrong. And We appointed a fixed time for their destruction.

18/Al-Kahf-60: Waith qala moosa lifatahu la abrahu hatta ablugha majmaAAa albahrayni aw amdiya huquban
And (remember) when Moses said to his boy-servant (attendant): I will not give up (traveling) until I reach the junction of the two seas or (until) I will go on for years (for a long time).

18/Al-Kahf-61: Falamma balagha majmaAAa baynihima nasiya hootahuma faittakhatha sabeelahu fee albahri saraban
So when they had reached the junction of the two (seas) they forgot their fish, and it took its way into the sea, going away (as in a tunnel).

18/Al-Kahf-62: Falamma jawaza qala lifatahu atina ghadaana laqad laqeena min safarina hatha nasaban
So when they had gone further (beyond that fixed place), he said to his boy-servant: Bring to us our morning meal, certainly we have met with fatigue from this (stage of) our journey.

18/Al-Kahf-63: Qala araayta ith awayna ila alssakhrati fainnee naseetu alhoota wama ansaneehu illa alshshaytanu an athkurahu waittakhatha sabeelahu fee albahri AAajaban
He said: Did you see when we took refuge on the rock, then I forgot the fish, none but Satan made me forget to remember it, and it took its way into the sea; How strange! (in a strange way).

18/Al-Kahf-64: Qala thalika ma kunna nabghi fairtadda AAala atharihima qasasan
He (Moses) said: This is what we have been seeking for; so they returned retracing their footsteps.

18/Al-Kahf-65: Fawajada AAabdan min AAibadina ataynahu rahmatan min AAindina waAAallamnahu min ladunna AAilman
Then they found one of Our servants whom We had granted Mercy from Us and whom We had taught knowledge from Our own Presence (from Our Secret Knowledge, ‘ılm-i ledun).

18/Al-Kahf-66: Qala lahu moosa hal attabiAAuka AAala an tuAAallimani mimma AAullimta rushdan
Moses said to him: May I follow (depend on) you so that you may teach me of what you have been taught in order that I may reach the Immateril Maturity (rushd).

18/Al-Kahf-67: Qala innaka lan tastateeAAa maAAiya sabran
He (Khidr) said: Surely you cannot have patience (before the events that will happen) when you are with me.

18/Al-Kahf-68: Wakayfa tasbiru AAala ma lam tuhit bihi khubran
And how can you have patience in that which you cannot surround since you are not made to possess full information about it?

18/Al-Kahf-69: Qala satajidunee in shaa Allahu sabiran wala aAAsee laka amran
He (Moses) said: If Allah wills (it), you will find me patient and I shall not disobey (rebel against) you in any matter.

18/Al-Kahf-70: Qala faini ittabaAAtanee fala tasalnee AAan shayin hatta ohditha laka minhu thikran
He (Khidr) said: If you would follow me, then do not question me about any thing until I myself speak to you about it.

18/Al-Kahf-71: Faintalaqa hatta itha rakiba fee alssafeenati kharaqaha qala akharaqtaha litughriqa ahlaha laqad jita shayan imran
So they both proceeded until, when they embarked the ship, he made a hole in it. He (Moses) said: Have you made a hole in it to drown its inmates? Certainly you have done a grievous (dreadful) thing “Imr”.

18/Al-Kahf-72: Qala alam aqul innaka lan tastateeAAa maAAiya sabran
He (Khidr) said: Did I not say that you will not be able to have patience (when you are) with me?

18/Al-Kahf-73: Qala la tuakhithnee bima naseetu wala turhiqnee min amree AAusran
He (Moses) said: Do not rebuke me for what I forgot and do not constrain me to a difficult thing in my affair.

18/Al-Kahf-74: Faintalaqa hatta itha laqiya ghulaman faqatalahu qala aqatalta nafsan zakiyyatan bighayri nafsin laqad jita shayan nukran
Then they both proceeded, till they met a boy and he (Khidr) killed him. He (Moses) said: Have you killed an innocent person otherwise than for manslaughter? Certainly you have made an extremely evil thing (contrary to Divine Law, “Nukr”).

18/Al-Kahf-75: Qala alam aqul laka innaka lan tastateeAAa maAAiya sabran
He (Khidr) said: Did I not say to you that you will not be able to have patience with me?

18/Al-Kahf-76: Qala in saaltuka AAan shayin baAAdaha fala tusahibnee qad balaghta min ladunnee AAuthran
He (Moses) said: If I ask you about anything after this, do not keep me in your company; indeed you shall have (then) reached an excuse (acceptable) from me (for your not keeping me in your company).

18/Al-Kahf-77: Faintalaqa hatta itha ataya ahla qaryatin istatAAama ahlaha faabaw an yudayyifoohuma fawajada feeha jidaran yureedu an yanqadda faaqamahu qala law shita laittakhathta AAalayhi ajran
Then they both proceeded, till, when they came to the people of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused to make them guests. Then they found in it a wall which was on the point of falling down (collapsing), so he set it up straight (restored it). He (Moses) said:If you had wished, surely, you could certainly have taken a wage for it.

18/Al-Kahf-78: Qala hatha firaqu baynee wabaynika saonabbioka bitaweeli ma lam tastatiAA AAalayhi sabran
He (Khidr) said: This shall be separation between me and you; now I will inform you of the significance (interpretation) of that with which you could not have patience.

18/Al-Kahf-79: Amma alssafeenatu fakanat limasakeena yaAAmaloona fee albahri faaradtu an aAAeebaha wakana waraahum malikun yakhuthu kulla safeenatin ghasban
As for the ship (boat), it belonged to (some) poor people who worked on the sea and I wished to make a defective damage in it, as there was behind them a king who seized every ship by force.

18/Al-Kahf-80: Waamma alghulamu fakana abawahu muminayni fakhasheena an yurhiqahuma tughyanan wakufran
And as for the boy, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should impose rebellion and disbelief on them (…drag them into rebellion and disbelief).

18/Al-Kahf-81: Faaradna an yubdilahuma rabbuhuma khayran minhu zakatan waaqraba ruhman
So we intended that their Lord should change him for them for one better in purity and nearer to having compassion (in affection).

18/Al-Kahf-82: Waamma aljidaru fakana lighulamayni yateemayni fee almadeenati wakana tahtahu kanzun lahuma wakana aboohuma salihan faarada rabbuka an yablugha ashuddahuma wayastakhrija kanzahuma rahmatan min rabbika wama faAAaltuhu AAan amree thalika taweelu ma lam tastiAA AAalayhi sabran
And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was under it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was an improved one (Sâlih); so your Lord desired that they should attain their age of full strength (their maturity) and take out their treasure, as a mercy from their Lord, and I did not do it of my own accord. This is the significance (the interpretation) of that with which you could not have patience.

18/Al-Kahf-83: Wayasaloonaka AAan thee alqarnayni qul saatloo AAalaykum minhu thikran
And they ask you about Dhû’l-Qarnain. Say: I shall recite (read and explain) to you a remembrance of him (by mentioning him).

18/Al-Kahf-84: Inna makkanna lahu fee alardi waataynahu min kulli shayin sababan
Surely We established (supported) him in the earth and granted him means of access to every thing.

18/Al-Kahf-85: FaatbaAAa sababan
So he followed a course (He set out).

18/Al-Kahf-86: Hatta itha balagha maghriba alshshamsi wajadaha taghrubu fee AAaynin hamiatin wawajada AAindaha qawman qulna ya tha alqarnayni imma an tuAAaththiba waimma an tattakhitha feehim husnan
Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of black muddy (or hot) water, and found by it a people. We said: O Dhû’l-Qarnain! Either you torment (punish) them, or treat them with kindness.

18/Al-Kahf-87: Qala amma man thalama fasawfa nuAAaththibuhu thumma yuraddu ila rabbihi fayuAAaththibuhu AAathaban nukran
He (Dhû’l-Qarnain) said: As for him who does wrong, we shall torment (punish) him, then he shall be returned to his Lord, and He will torment him with a fearsome (exemplary) torment.

18/Al-Kahf-88: Waamma man amana waAAamila salihan falahu jazaan alhusna wasanaqoolu lahu min amrina yusran
And as for him who believes (who wishes to reach Allah before dying) and does improving deeds [that purify the soul (‘s heart)], then for him there is the best reward (Paradise and the worldly happiness) and We will speak to him (carry out for him) of Our Command what is easy.

18/Al-Kahf-89: Thumma atbaAAa sababan
Then he followed an (other) course (He set off) until, when he came to the rising place of the sun, he found it rising on a people to whom We had given no shelter from it.

18/Al-Kahf-90: Hatta itha balagha matliAAa alshshamsi wajadaha tatluAAu AAala qawmin lam najAAal lahum min dooniha sitran
Until when he reached the land of the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people to whom We had given no shelter from it;

18/Al-Kahf-91: Kathalika waqad ahatna bima ladayhi khubran
So (it was). We surrounded (with Our Knowledge) all that was with him (all the events that had happened), being All-Informed (of them).

18/Al-Kahf-92: Thumma atbaAAa sababan
Then he followed (another) course (He set off).

18/Al-Kahf-93: Hatta itha balagha bayna alssaddayni wajada min doonihima qawman la yakadoona yafqahoona qawlan
Until, when he reached between the two Barriers, he found on that side of them a people who could hardly understand a word.

18/Al-Kahf-94: Qaloo ya tha alqarnayni inna yajooja wamajooja mufsidoona fee alardi fahal najAAalu laka kharjan AAala an tajAAala baynana wabaynahum saddan
They said: O Dhû’l-Qarnain! Verily Ya’jûj and Ma’jûj (Gog and Magog) make mischief in the land (earth). Shall we then pay you a tribute on condition that you should raise (erect) a barrier between us and them?

18/Al-Kahf-95: Qala ma makkannee feehi rabbee khayrun faaAAeenoonee biquwwatin ajAAal baynakum wabaynahum radman
He said: That in which my Lord has established (strengthened, supported) me is better; therefore, you only help me with a force (of laborers), I will make a fortified barrier between you and them.

18/Al-Kahf-96: Atoonee zubara alhadeedi hatta itha sawa bayna alsadafayni qala onfukhoo hatta itha jaAAalahu naran qala atoonee ofrigh AAalayhi qitran
Bring me blocks of iron; until, when he had filled up the space between the two mountain sides, he said: Blow (with your bellows) until when he had made it (as) fire, he said: Bring me molten brass (copper) which I may pour over it.

18/Al-Kahf-97: Fama istaAAoo an yathharoohu wama istataAAoo lahu naqban
So they were not able to scale (pass over) it nor could they make a hole in it (dig through it).

18/Al-Kahf-98: Qala hatha rahmatun min rabbee faitha jaa waAAdu rabbee jaAAalahu dakkaa wakana waAAdu rabbee haqqan
He (Dhû’l Qarnain) said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it level with the ground, and the Promise of my Lord is ever true.

18/Al-Kahf-99: Watarakna baAAdahum yawmaithin yamooju fee baAAdin wanufikha fee alssoori fajamaAAnahum jamAAan
And on that Day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another and the Trumpet will be blown, so We will gather them all together.

18/Al-Kahf-100: WaAAaradna jahannama yawmaithin lilkafireena AAardan
And We will bring forth Hell, exposed to view, on that Day (of Permission) before the disbelievers.

18/Al-Kahf-101: Allatheena kanat aAAyunuhum fee ghitain AAan thikree wakanoo la yastateeAAoona samAAan
They whose eyes were under a cover from My Reminder (Remembrance, dhikr), and they could not even hear.

18/Al-Kahf-102: Afahasiba allatheena kafaroo an yattakhithoo AAibadee min doonee awliyaa inna aAAtadna jahannama lilkafireena nuzulan
What! do then those who disbelieve think (reckon) that they can take My servants to be protecting friends besides Me? Surely We have prepared Hell as a dwelling-place (as an entertainment) for the disbelievers.

18/Al-Kahf-103: Qul hal nunabbiokum bialakhsareena aAAmalan
Say: Shall we inform you of the greatest losers in (their) deeds?

18/Al-Kahf-104: Allatheena dalla saAAyuhum fee alhayati alddunya wahum yahsaboona annahum yuhsinoona sunAAan
(These are) they whose labor is deviated in the life of the world (the degrees that they have lost are more than the degrees that they have earned) while they reckoned that they were acquiring good (by their deeds).

18/Al-Kahf-105: Olaika allatheena kafaroo biayati rabbihim waliqaihi fahabitat aAAmaluhum fala nuqeemu lahum yawma alqiyamati waznan
These are they who disbelieve in the Verses (Signs) of their Lord and His meeting (the spirit’s reaching Allah before death), so their deeds become null (vain) and therefore We will not set up a Balance (weight) for them on the Day of Resurrection.

18/Al-Kahf-106: Thalika jazaohum jahannamu bima kafaroo waittakhathoo ayatee warusulee huzuwan
Thus it is that their recompense is Hell, because they disbelieved (concealed) and held My Verses (Signs…) and My Messengers in mockery.

18/Al-Kahf-107: Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati kanat lahum jannatu alfirdawsi nuzulan
Surely (as for) those who believe (those who wish to reach Allah before dying) and do improving deeds (the soul’s purification) their place of entertainment shall be the Gardens of Al-Firdaus (Paradise).

18/Al-Kahf-108: Khalideena feeha la yabghoona AAanha hiwalan
Where they shall dwell forever, they shall not desire removal from them.

18/Al-Kahf-109: Qul law kana albahru midadan likalimati rabbee lanafida albahru qabla an tanfada kalimatu rabbee walaw jina bimithlihi madadan
) Say: If the sea were ink for (writing) the Words of my Lord, the sea would surely be consumed before the Words of my Lord are exhausted, even if We were to bring the like of that (sea) for its aid.

18/Al-Kahf-110: Qul innama ana basharun mithlukum yooha ilayya annama ilahukum ilahun wahidun faman kana yarjoo liqaa rabbihi falyaAAmal AAamalan salihan wala yushrik biAAibadati rabbihi ahadan
Say: I am only a mortal (a human being) like you; it is revealed to me that your God is One God, therefore whoever hopes to meet his Lord (wishes to reach Allah before dying) let him do improving deeds (the soul’s purification) and let him not associate anyone with Him in the worship of his Lord.
