15/Al-Hijr-1: Aliflamra tilka ayatu alkitabi waquranin mubeenin
Alif-Lâm-Râ [These disjointed letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’ân, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are Verses of the Book and a plain Qur’ân.
15/Al-Hijr-2: Rubama yawaddu allatheena kafaroo law kanoo muslimeena
Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims (submitters to Allah).
15/Al-Hijr-3: Tharhum yakuloo wayatamattaAAoo wayulhihimu alamalu fasawfa yaAAlamoona
Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope beguile them, for they will come to know!
15/Al-Hijr-4: Wama ahlakna min qaryatin illa walaha kitabun maAAloomun
And never did We destroy a town but there was a known Book (Decree) for it.
15/Al-Hijr-5: Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalaha wama yastakhiroona
No nation can advance its term nor delay it.
15/Al-Hijr-6: Waqaloo ya ayyuha allathee nuzzila AAalayhi alththikru innaka lamajnoonun
And they say: O you to whom the Reminder (the Qur’ân) has been sent down! You are most surely insane (possessed).
15/Al-Hijr-7: Law ma tateena bialmalaikati in kunta mina alssadiqeena
Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones?
15/Al-Hijr-8: Ma nunazzilu almalaikata illa bialhaqqi wama kanoo ithan munthareena
We do not send the angels down except with the truth, and then they would not be respited.
15/Al-Hijr-9: Inna nahnu nazzalna alththikra wainna lahu lahafithoona
Surely, We, it is We Who have sent down the Reminder (Dhikr, i.e. the Qur’ân) and We will surely be its Guardian.
15/Al-Hijr-10: Walaqad arsalna min qablika fee shiyaAAi alawwaleena
And certainly We sent (Messengers) before you among the sects (nations) of old.
15/Al-Hijr-11: Wama yateehim min rasoolin illa kanoo bihi yastahzioona
And there never came a Messenger to them but they mocked at them.
15/Al-Hijr-12: Kathalika naslukuhu fee quloobi almujrimeena
Thus do We make it (mocking) to enter into the hearts of the criminals (the guilty).
15/Al-Hijr-13: La yuminoona bihi waqad khalat sunnatu alawwaleena
They do not believe in it, and indeed the Practice (habit, Sunna) of the former people has already passed.
15/Al-Hijr-14: Walaw fatahna AAalayhim baban mina alssamai fathalloo feehi yaAArujoona
And even if We open to them a gateway from the heaven so that they ascend into it all the while.
15/Al-Hijr-15: Laqaloo innama sukkirat absaruna bal nahnu qawmun mashooroona
They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over (dazzled) [we cannot see the reality], rather, we are an enchanted people (a people bewitched).
15/Al-Hijr-16: Walaqad jaAAalna fee alssamai buroojan wazayyannaha lilnnathireena
And certainly We have made strongholds (burûc, mansions of stars, signs of the zodiac) in the heaven and We beautified for the beholders.
15/Al-Hijr-17: Wahafithnaha min kulli shaytanin rajeemin
And We have guarded it from every stoned (outcast, accursed) Satan.
15/Al-Hijr-18: Illa mani istaraqa alssamAAa faatbaAAahu shihabun mubeenun
Except him who listens by stealth (who steals the hearing, he tries to steal the informations of the Unseen), so a visible flaming fire pursues him.
15/Al-Hijr-19: Waalarda madadnaha waalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatna feeha min kulli shayin mawzoonin
And the earth, We have spread it out, and made in it firm mountains and caused to grow in it of every well-proportioned thing.
15/Al-Hijr-20: WajaAAalna lakum feeha maAAayisha waman lastum lahu biraziqeena
And We have made in it means of subsistence for you and for those for whom you are not the suppliers.
15/Al-Hijr-21: Wain min shayin illa AAindana khazainuhu wama nunazziluhu illa biqadarin maAAloomin
And there is not a thing but with Us are the treasures of it, and We do send it down but in a known measure (predestination; in a known foreordained quantity).
15/Al-Hijr-22: Waarsalna alrriyaha lawaqiha faanzalna mina alssamai maan faasqaynakumoohu wama antum lahu bikhazineena
And We send the winds fertilizing (to fill heavily the clouds with water), then send down water (rain) from the sky, and We give it to you to drink of, nor is it you who are the owners of its stores (who constitutes the seas, the rivers, underground and ground springwaters).
15/Al-Hijr-23: Wainna lanahnu nuhyee wanumeetu wanahnu alwarithoona
And certainly, We! We it is Who give life and cause death and We are the Inheritor(s).
15/Al-Hijr-24: Walaqad AAalimna almustaqdimeena minkum walaqad AAalimna almustakhireena
And certainly We know those of you who have gone before and We certainly know those who shall come later.
15/Al-Hijr-25: Wainna rabbaka huwa yahshuruhum innahu hakeemun AAaleemun
And surely your Lord will gather them together; surely, He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.
15/Al-Hijr-26: Walaqad khalaqna alinsana min salsalin min hamain masnoonin
And certainly We created man from dried (sounding) clay of altered mud (from clay that has undergone an organic transformation and has been given a standard shape of a human being).
15/Al-Hijr-27: Waaljanna khalaqnahu min qablu min nari alssamoomi
And the jinn We created before from intensely hot fire (that penetrates into the pores).
15/Al-Hijr-28: Waith qala rabbuka lilmalaikati innee khaliqun basharan min salsalin min hamain masnoonin
And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal from dried (sounding) clay of altered mud.
15/Al-Hijr-29: Faitha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehi min roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideena
So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall down prostrating yourselves before him.
15/Al-Hijr-30: Fasajada almalaikatu kulluhum ajmaAAoona
So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together.
15/Al-Hijr-31: Illa ibleesa aba an yakoona maAAa alssajideena
Except Iblîs (Satan); he refused to be with the prostraters.
15/Al-Hijr-32: Qala ya ibleesu ma laka alla takoona maAAa alssajideena
He (Allah) said: O Iblîs (Satan)! What is your reason for not being with the prostraters?
15/Al-Hijr-33: Qala lam akun liasjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min salsalin min hamain masnoonin
He (Iblîs, Satan) said: I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being (a mortal), whom You created from dried (sounding) clay of altered mud.
15/Al-Hijr-34: Qala faokhruj minha fainnaka rajeemun
He (Allah) said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away (stoned, outcast, accursed).
15/Al-Hijr-35: Wainna AAalayka allaAAnata ila yawmi alddeeni
And surely on you is the Curse until the Day of Recompense (yaumiddîn: the Day of the Religion).
15/Al-Hijr-36: Qala rabbi faanthirnee ila yawmi yubAAathoona
He said: My Lord! then respite me till a Day when they will be raised up (resurrected).
15/Al-Hijr-37: Qala fainnaka mina almunthareena
He (Allah) said: surely you are of the respited ones.
15/Al-Hijr-38: Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloomi
Till the Day of the period of time (made) known.
15/Al-Hijr-39: Qala rabbi bima aghwaytanee laozayyinanna lahum fee alardi walaoghwiyannahum ajmaAAeena
He (Satan) said: My Lord! Because you led me astray (seduced me) I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth. I will certainly lead them astray (seduce them).
15/Al-Hijr-40: Illa AAibadaka minhumu almukhlaseena
Except Your servants from among them, the utterly pure ones (muhlasîn, the owners of utter purity).
15/Al-Hijr-41: Qala hatha siratun AAalayya mustaqeemun
He (Allah) Said: This is a Path directed towards Me (that will lead straight to Me).
15/Al-Hijr-42: Inna AAibadee laysa laka AAalayhim sultanun illa mani ittabaAAaka mina alghaweena
Certainly, you shall have no authority over My servants, except those who follow (depend on) you of those who go astray (of those whom you seduced).
15/Al-Hijr-43: Wainna jahannama lamawAAiduhum ajmaAAeena
And surely Hell is the promised place of them all.
15/Al-Hijr-44: Laha sabAAatu abwabin likulli babin minhum juzon maqsoomun
It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them.
15/Al-Hijr-45: Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatin waAAuyoonin
Surely the owners of piety (Muttaqûn) will be in the midst of Gardens and water-springs:
15/Al-Hijr-46: Odkhulooha bisalamin amineena
Enter them in peace, secure.
15/Al-Hijr-47: WanazaAAna ma fee sudoorihim min ghillin ikhwanan AAala sururin mutaqabileena
And We will root out whatever of rancor is in their breasts. (They will be) brothers, on raised couches, face to face.
15/Al-Hijr-48: La yamassuhum feeha nasabun wama hum minha bimukhrajeena
No fatigue shall touch them there, neither shall they be ever expelled from it.
15/Al-Hijr-49: Nabbi AAibadee annee ana alghafooru alrraheemu
Inform My servants, that truly, I am the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful (the One who sends down the Light of Mercy).
15/Al-Hijr-50: Wa anna AAathabee huwa alAAathabu alaleemu
And that My torment is indeed the painful torment.
15/Al-Hijr-51: Wanabbihum AAan dayfi ibraheema
And inform them of the guests of Abraham.
15/Al-Hijr-52: Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloo salaman qala inna minkum wajiloona
When they entered upon him, they said: Peace (be upon you). He said: Surely We feel afraid of you.
15/Al-Hijr-53: Qaloo la tawjal inna nubashshiruka bighulamin AAaleemin
They said: Do not be afraid, surely We give you the glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge.
15/Al-Hijr-54: Qala abashshartumoonee AAala an massaniya alkibaru fabima tubashshirooni
He said: Do you give me good news (of a son) when old age has come upon me? of what then do you give me good news?
15/Al-Hijr-55: Qaloo bashsharnaka bialhaqqi fala takun mina alqaniteena
They said: We give you glad tidings with truth, therefore do not be of the despairing.
15/Al-Hijr-56: Qala waman yaqnatu min rahmati rabbihi illa alddalloona
He said: And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are in Misguidance?
15/Al-Hijr-57: Qala fama khatbukum ayyuha almursaloona
He said: What is your business then (what is the matter then of which you will speak), O Messengers?
15/Al-Hijr-58: Qaloo inna orsilna ila qawmin mujrimeena
They said: Surely We have been sent to a criminal people.
15/Al-Hijr-59: Illa ala lootin inna lamunajjoohum ajmaAAeena
Except the family (house) of Lot: We will most surely deliver them all,
15/Al-Hijr-60: Illa imraatahu qaddarna innaha lamina alghabireena
Except his wife; We have decreed that she shall be of those who remain behind.
15/Al-Hijr-61: Falamma jaa ala lootin almursaloona
So when the messengers came to the family (followers) of Lot,
15/Al-Hijr-62: Qala innakum qawmun munkaroona
He (Lot) said: Surely you are an unknown (foreigner) people.
15/Al-Hijr-63: Qaloo bal jinaka bima kanoo feehi yamtaroona
They said: Nay, we have come to you with that which they have been doubting (disputing).
15/Al-Hijr-64: Waataynaka bialhaqqi wainna lasadiqoona
And we have come to you with the truth, and we are most surely truthful.
15/Al-Hijr-65: Faasri biahlika biqitAAin mina allayli waittabiAA adbarahum wala yaltafit minkum ahadun waimdoo haythu tumaroona
Therefore go forth with your household (followers) in a part of the night and yourself follow their rear, and let not any one of you turn round (look back), and go on to where you are commanded.
15/Al-Hijr-66: Waqadayna ilayhi thalika alamra anna dabira haolai maqtooAAun musbiheena
And We made known this decree to him, that the root of them was to be cut off in the early morning.
15/Al-Hijr-67: Wajaa ahlu almadeenati yastabshiroona
And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (giving good news to each other).
15/Al-Hijr-68: Qala inna haolai dayfee fala tafdahooni
He (Lot) said: Surely these are my guests; therefore do not shame (disgrace) me.
15/Al-Hijr-69: Waittaqoo Allaha wala tukhzooni
Have piety towards Allah and do not degrade me.
15/Al-Hijr-70: Qaloo awalam nanhaka AAani alAAalameena
They said: Did we not forbid you from (other) people?
15/Al-Hijr-71: Qala haolai banatee in kuntum faAAileena
He (Lot) said: These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so).
15/Al-Hijr-72: LaAAamruka innahum lafee sakratihim yaAAmahoona
Assuredly, by your life! They were blindly wandering on in their intoxication
15/Al-Hijr-73: Faakhathathumu alssayhatu mushriqeena
So the rumbling (a terrible soundwave) overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; [so the rumbling overtook those who were there at sunrise].
15/Al-Hijr-74: FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilaha waamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan min sijjeelin
Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them (fatal) stones of baked clay.
15/Al-Hijr-75: Inna fee thalika laayatin lilmutawassimeena
Surely in this are Signs for those who examine (take warning).
15/Al-Hijr-76: Wainnaha labisabeelin muqeemin
And surely it is on a way that still remains.
15/Al-Hijr-77: Inna fee thalika laayatan lilmumineena
Most surely there is a Sign in this for the believers (into the souls’ hearts of whom the Faith has been written).
15/Al-Hijr-78: Wain kana ashabu alaykati lathalimeena
And the Dwellers of the Thicket (Al-Ayka) also were most surely wrong-doers.
15/Al-Hijr-79: Faintaqamna minhum wainnahuma labiimamin mubeenin
So, We took vengeance on them and they are both, indeed, leaders (to Misguidance, Hell) [a lesson to be learnt for the following generations] openly.
15/Al-Hijr-80: Walaqad kaththaba ashabu alhijri almursaleena
And the Dwellers of Rocky Tract certainly rejected (denied) the Messengers.
15/Al-Hijr-81: Waataynahum ayatina fakanoo AAanha muAArideena
And We gave them Our Signs, but they turned aside from them.
15/Al-Hijr-82: Wakanoo yanhitoona mina aljibali buyootan amineena
And they used to hew out houses from the mountains (hills) in security.
15/Al-Hijr-83: Faakhathathumu alssayhatu musbiheena
So the rumbling (awful cry) overtook them in the morning (So the rumbling overtook those who attained to the morning). (84) And what they earned did not avail them.
15/Al-Hijr-84: Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanoo yaksiboona
And what they earned did not avail them.
15/Al-Hijr-85: Wama khalaqna alssamawati waalarda wama baynahuma illa bialhaqqi wainna alssaAAata laatiyatun faisfahi alssafha aljameela
And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except with the truth and the Hour is most surely coming, so overlook (their faults) with graciousness.
15/Al-Hijr-86: Inna rabbaka huwa alkhallaqu alAAaleemu
Surely your Lord is the Creator of all things, the All-Knowing.
15/Al-Hijr-87: Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan mina almathanee waalqurana alAAatheema
And certainly We have given you seven from the second (sevenfold, as sevenfold) and the Grand Qur’ân.
15/Al-Hijr-88: La tamuddanna AAaynayka ila ma mattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum wala tahzan AAalayhim waikhfid janahaka lilmumineena
Do not strain your eyes after what We have given some of them as provision doubled (abundantly), nor grieve over them. And lower your wings for the believers (guard them, be humble).
15/Al-Hijr-89: Waqul innee ana alnnatheeru almubeenu
And say: Surely I am the plain Warner.
15/Al-Hijr-90: Kama anzalna AAala almuqtasimeena
Like as We sent down on the dividers (in parts).
15/Al-Hijr-91: Allatheena jaAAaloo alqurana AAideena
Those who made the Qur’ân into parts
15/Al-Hijr-92: Fawarabbika lanasalannahum ajmaAAeena
So, by your Lord, We shall surely question them altogether.
15/Al-Hijr-93: AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloona
As to what they used to do.
15/Al-Hijr-94: FaisdaAA bima tumaru waaAArid AAani almushrikeena
So proclaim openly what you are commanded, and turn away from the associators (polytheists).
15/Al-Hijr-95: Inna kafaynaka almustahzieena
Surely We will suffice you against the mockers (scoffers).
15/Al-Hijr-96: Allatheena yajAAaloona maAAa Allahi ilahan akhara fasawfa yaAAlamoona
Those who set up another god with Allah; so they shall soon know.
15/Al-Hijr-97: Walaqad naAAlamu annaka yadeequ sadruka bima yaqooloona
And surely We know that your breast is straitened at what they say;
15/Al-Hijr-98: Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wakun mina alssajideena
Therefore glorify your Lord with His praise, and be of those who prostrate themselves (to Him).
15/Al-Hijr-99: WaoAAbud rabbaka hatta yatiyaka alyaqeenu
And serve (be a servant to) Allah until what is certain [yakîn, the last certainty, the Certainty of Allah] comes to you.
