44/Ad-Dukhan-1: Hameem
Hâ-Mim. [These disjointed letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].
44/Ad-Dukhan-2: Waalkitabi almubeeni
(I swear) by the manifest Book (this Qur’ân that makes things clear).
44/Ad-Dukhan-3: Inna anzalnahu fee laylatin mubarakatin inna kunna munthireena
We sent it (this Qur’an) down on a blessed night. Surely We are ever warning.
44/Ad-Dukhan-4: Feeha yufraqu kullu amrin hakeemin
Therein every wise (judged) affair is made distinct (determined).
44/Ad-Dukhan-5: Amran min AAindina inna kunna mursileena
As a Command from Us (Our Presence); surely We are ever sending [We are the senders of] (the Qur’an and the Messengers).
44/Ad-Dukhan-6: Rahmatan min rabbika innahu huwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu
(As) a Mercy from your Lord. Surely, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.
44/Ad-Dukhan-7: Rabbi alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma in kuntum mooqineena
Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you have a faith with certainty (if you are the owners of certainty, yaqîn).
44/Ad-Dukhan-8: La ilaha illa huwa yuhyee wayumeetu rabbukum warabbu abaikumu alawwaleena
There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, He is your Lord, and Lord of your forefathers.
44/Ad-Dukhan-9: Bal hum fee shakkin yalAAaboona
Nay! They play about in doubt.
44/Ad-Dukhan-10: Fairtaqib yawma tatee alssamao bidukhanin mubeenin
Therefore keep waiting (watch) for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke (a disorder, confusion, turbulence, temptation; Fitnah).
44/Ad-Dukhan-11: Yaghsha alnnasa hatha AAathabun aleemun
(A fitnah) that will envelop (most of) the people: that is a painful torment.
44/Ad-Dukhan-12: Rabbana ikshif AAanna alAAathaba inna muminoona
(Then they will say): Our Lord, remove from us this torment; surely we are believers.
44/Ad-Dukhan-13: Anna lahumu alththikra waqad jaahum rasoolun mubeenun
How can there be for them an admonition and there came to them a Messenger making clear (everything) [A Messenger who made clear (everything) had come to them, (in spite of this) they have not taking warning (from what the Messenger has said to them].
44/Ad-Dukhan-14: Thumma tawallaw AAanhu waqaloo muAAallamun majnoonun
Then they have turned away from him and said: One taught (by Satan, by being revealed by him), a madman (a possessed one).
44/Ad-Dukhan-15: Inna kashifoo alAAathabi qaleelan innakum AAaidoona
Surely (even if) We remove the torment a little, you will surely return (to shirq, to associating others with Allah).
44/Ad-Dukhan-16: Yawma nabtishu albatshata alkubra inna muntaqimoona
On the day when We shall seize (them) with the most violent seizing, surely We will exact retribution (We will take vengeance).
44/Ad-Dukhan-17: Walaqad fatanna qablahum qawma firAAawna wajaahum rasoolun kareemun
And certainly We tried before them Pharaoh’s people, and a noble (generous) Messenger had come to them.
44/Ad-Dukhan-18: An addoo ilayya AAibada Allahi innee lakum rasoolun ameenun
(Saying): Deliver to me the servants of Allah. Surely I am to you a faithful Messenger.
44/Ad-Dukhan-19: Waan la taAAloo AAala Allahi innee ateekum bisultanin mubeenin
And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I bring you a clear authority (proof).
44/Ad-Dukhan-20: Wainnee AAuthtu birabbee warabbikum an tarjumooni
And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me (to death).
44/Ad-Dukhan-21: Wain lam tuminoo lee faiAAtazilooni
And if you do not believe in me, then keep away from me (and leave me alone).
44/Ad-Dukhan-22: FadaAAa rabbahu anna haolai qawmun mujrimoona
Then he called upon his Lord (saying): These are a criminal (guilty) people.
44/Ad-Dukhan-23: Faasri biAAibadee laylan innakum muttabaAAoona
So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued.
44/Ad-Dukhan-24: Waotruki albahra rahwan innahum jundun mughraqoona
And leave the sea as a furrow (divided); surely they are a host that shall be drowned.
44/Ad-Dukhan-25: Kam tarakoo min jannatin waAAuyoonin
How many of the gardens and watersprings have they left behind!
44/Ad-Dukhan-26: WazurooAAin wamaqamin kareemin
And cornfields and goodly places!
44/Ad-Dukhan-27: WanaAAmatin kanoo feeha fakiheena
And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight!
44/Ad-Dukhan-28: Kathalika waawrathnaha qawman akhareena
Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them.
44/Ad-Dukhan-29: Fama bakat AAalayhimu alssamao waalardu wama kanoo munthareena
So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited (reprieved).
44/Ad-Dukhan-30: Walaqad najjayna banee israeela mina alAAathabi almuheeni
And certainly We delivered the Children of Israel from the abasing torment.
44/Ad-Dukhan-31: Min firAAawna innahu kana AAaliyan mina almusrifeena
From Pharaoh; surely he was haughty (and) one of the extravagant.
44/Ad-Dukhan-32: Walaqadi ikhtarnahum AAala AAilmin AAala alAAalameena
And certainly We chose them, upon a knowledge, above the Worlds (nations).
44/Ad-Dukhan-33: Waataynahum mina alayati ma feehi balaon mubeenun
And We gave them of the Signs (miracles) wherein was a clear trial.
44/Ad-Dukhan-34: Inna haolai layaqooloona
Most surely these do say:
44/Ad-Dukhan-35: In hiya illa mawtatuna aloola wama nahnu bimunshareena
There is nothing but our first death, and we shall not be raised again.
44/Ad-Dukhan-36: Fatoo biabaina in kuntum sadiqeena
So bring our fathers (back), if you are truthful.
44/Ad-Dukhan-37: Ahum khayrun am qawmu tubbaAAin waallatheena min qablihim ahlaknahum innahum kanoo mujrimeena
Are they better or the people of Tubba’ and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were criminal (guilty).
44/Ad-Dukhan-38: Wama khalaqna alssamawati waalarda wama baynahuma laAAibeena
And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them, for mere play (in play).
44/Ad-Dukhan-39: Ma khalaqnahuma illa bialhaqqi walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona
We did not create them both except with the truth, but most of them do not know.
44/Ad-Dukhan-40: Inna yawma alfasli meeqatuhum ajmaAAeena
Surely the Day of Separation (Decision) is their appointed term, of all of them;
44/Ad-Dukhan-41: Yawma la yughnee mawlan AAan mawlan shayan wala hum yunsaroona
The Day on which a friend shall not avail (his) friend aught, nor shall they be helped.
44/Ad-Dukhan-42: Illa man rahima Allahu innahu huwa alAAazeezu alrraheemu
Except him on whom Allah has Mercy (Except him on whom Allah manifests Himself with His Name of Most Merciful); Surely He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
44/Ad-Dukhan-43: Inna shajarata alzzaqqoomi
Surely the tree of Zaqqûm.
44/Ad-Dukhan-44: TaAAamu alatheemi
Is the food of the sinful,
44/Ad-Dukhan-45: Kaalmuhli yaghlee fee albutooni
Like dregs of oil; it shall boil in the bellies,
44/Ad-Dukhan-46: Kaghalyi alhameemi
Like the boiling of scalding water,
44/Ad-Dukhan-47: Khuthoohu faiAAtiloohu ila sawai aljaheemi
(it will be said); Seize him, then drag him into the middle of blazing Fire;
44/Ad-Dukhan-48: Thumma subboo fawqa rasihi min AAathabi alhameemi
Then pour over his head of the torment of the boiling water:
44/Ad-Dukhan-49: Thuq innaka anta alAAazeezu alkareemu
Taste (the torment)! Verily, you were (pretending to be) the mighty, the generous (the honorable).
44/Ad-Dukhan-50: Inna hatha ma kuntum bihi tamtaroona
Surely this (Torment) is what you used to doubt.
44/Ad-Dukhan-51: Inna almuttaqeena fee maqamin ameenin
Surely the owners of piety are in a secure place.
44/Ad-Dukhan-52: Fee jannatin waAAuyoonin
In Gardens and water- springs;
44/Ad-Dukhan-53: Yalbasoona min sundusin waistabraqin mutaqabileena
They shall wear of fine and thick silk, facing each other,
44/Ad-Dukhan-54: Kathalika wazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeenin
Thus (shall it be),
44/Ad-Dukhan-55: YadAAoona feeha bikulli fakihatin amineena
We will wed them with Hûr [(fair females) created by Allah as such, not from the spring of Adam] with wide, lovely eyes.
44/Ad-Dukhan-56: La yathooqoona feeha almawta illa almawtata aloola wawaqahum AAathaba aljaheemi
They shall not taste therein death except the first death, and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire,
44/Ad-Dukhan-57: Fadlan min rabbika thalika huwa alfawzu alAAatheemu
(As) a Grace from your Lord; this is the supreme success (the greatest Salvation).
44/Ad-Dukhan-58: Fainnama yassarnahu bilisanika laAAallahum yatathakkaroona
So have We made it easy in your tongue (language), that they may deliberate (heed, remember).
44/Ad-Dukhan-59: Fairtaqib innahum murtaqiboona
Therefore wait (watch); surely they are waiting (watching).
